Yep, the cognitive dissonance is incredible.
This is why Elon will not be around long. He will have enough of this foolishness with the quickness.

I stand corrected. Still think he is full of shite. But at least he got that one right.

Trump begged the debt ceiling to be raised now she he didn't have to govern and deal with it while in office.
Is it too low to cover the already approved spending?
Does he want it raised so he can pay for some shite he wants to do?
quote:The frick. What’s this thing called? I’ve got to start being more aware of this stuff.
You got a deal reached today on another shite pile with a debt ceiling jacked up to permit more insane spending until 2027.

I may be confused, but isn't the deal here: a continuing resolution and an increase in the debt ceiling exactly what initiated the motion to vacate McCarthy?

IF they didn't raise it now, it would have to be dealt with in a few months (when he was in office).

Apparently, since he supports the CR that is now agreed upon.

I can tell you this: it ain't 12 appropriations bills.

They already agreed on the new CR that we talked about yesterday? Do we get to see what was cut?
Is it not high enough to pay for already promised projects? At what point in a new presidency do the old regime’s projects fall off the books and you can start doing new things with borrowed money while staying within the current debt ceiling?

The pdf is posted in another thread.

He'll have to explain why he's for raising the debt ceiling (destroying this facade of fiscal restraint/conservatism) and look like a Leftist...
....like he just did the past day.

Apparently not.

The next CR would be that point, and Trump specifically did not want to have to take a stance on the debt ceiling while President.
Trump took this stance yesterday and continued it today. I referenced it in the APL thread.

Because this has worked so well in the past right? We will 100% be in the exact same place next time. Seems we just kicked the can a little further down the road.

He is grandstanding. Where are his tweets calling out all the BS in the 1500 page bill? Where is his statements calling out Johnson? But now he wants to dig his heels in?
Yeah, i think you are right.
I am not sure what the numbers are, but it seems likely that there are far fewer than 218 deficit hawks in the House right now. Refusing to go to battle over it even before Trump takes office doesn't strike me as conceding the spending issue as much as it is dealing with political reality.

quote:Can you expound on "shite pile." I'm not challenging the characterization. I've not read the bill. But from what I understand, this CR is one helluva lot better than the "bipartisan" pile Johnson was trying to pass this morning.
You got a deal reached today on another shite pile

Nothing has changed. Trump will spend the next 4 years fighting Republicans instead of Democrats.
Trump needs to have a plan and organization in place to increase the number of republicans in the house. Primarying republicans may set him back in this quest. It may help him. In don't know. He has a unique opportunity in two years to pummel the democrats. That's what he should do. I doubt he will ever get 218 plus republicans who will think exactly as he does. It could make for a nauseating second term if this is his goal.

So if I have it right, Trump wants the debt ceiling raised right now so when he gets in, he doesn’t have to be the one to say “hey let’s raise this thing.”
And he wants it raised because he wants to see his plans through, but won’t be able to borrow enough money to do them bc the borrowed money is already tied up in projects from insane bills from the recent(ish) past.
So he’s like, “the previous folks got their way and they’re taking up all the funding and I can’t get my shite done so let’s raise the debt ceiling now so I don’t look like the problem when we’re adding more and more debt?”
