I think it brought to light the majority of the board's true economic principles and beliefs. They are willing to play mind games with themselves so long as a certain word isn't used, when in reality they are for these taxes.

It’s not that simple, income for the producers doesn’t just disappear into a black hole, it affects the entire economy as they spend their additional income.

The purpose of Trump’s tariffs isn’t to just arbitrarily raise prices, it’s to force other countries to reduce their taxes on our goods so we can actually have free and fair trade.
quote:Which is why we should naturally have an imbalance, why the imbalance grows when our economy grows, and why we have 35% or the total stock market capitalization. Everybody, foreign and domestic, wants to deal with the US more than anywhere else whether to sell something or invest their capital.
They need to sell to our consumers much more than our consumers need to buy from them.

I can't believe we are having to debate if tariffs=taxes. Louisiana education can't be this fricking bad.

Sorry your title is now more informational and clear, young upstanding tariff paying citizen.

trump's not levying VATs
He is levying tariffs to counteract them. Would you prefer he push a VAT and tariffs instead?

Probably the same amount as those who HATE HATE HATE being told a tariff is a tax.
So like 2 or 3.

no such thing as counteracting a foreign tariff via a domestic tariff. that would fail to un-tax the foreign consumer
i suppose he could do something like counteracting a foreign tariff by subsidizing particular exports, but that would be crony AF
eta: regardless, this has zero bearing on whether raising tariffs can fairly be called raising taxes in a thread title

Wow, touchy.
Disagree with my statement all you like, but you're not standing on any solid ground if you do so.
Domestic protectionism like a tariff cannot strictly counteract a foreign tariff. There is no actual economic theory that even suggests otherwise.
