Trump Rejects Tech CEO Calls for Slowing AI Development

As I was just saying in another thread, this is literally like entering an actual black hole. You will not know you have crossed the event horizon until it is too late. And the official government response here confirms we are inside the gravity well. Welcome to the singularity.

"We’re leading China in AI ... and, frankly, I want to keep it that way, because whoever wins AI, wins,” Trump said.
The AI arms race appears to be accelerating.

It's so funny we hold China up as some threat to pass us in anything as an excuse. They own most of the industry that drives every stock portfolio in this country and we've never recognized that as a significant threat.
But... hey, we'll risk creating something that can eliminate us. And it's for money, make no mistake about that. It's ALWAYS about money.

This Trump administration is just as corrupt as any other and I never thought I would say this.

This is because the military application of AI is a bigger development (by far) than the development of the nuclear weapon. The US is not going to let any other country establish AI dominance - period, end of discussion. Bitching about it does not make one bit of difference.
As if anyone is surprised to see you bitching about it anyways.

I guess the philosophy is that if AI enslaves and exterminates us, it should be US based AI

Any person with more than 2 brain cells to rub together could tell you this has absolutely nothing to do with who the president is.

And don't try to act like you're not a frickin anti-Trump retard who is "surprised" to have to say you think Trump is corrupt. Everyone sees the stupid shite you post.

Perhaps. But he does have some decision making authority here.

AI CEOs have the power to slow development already.
They don't need Trump.

I agree, restriction is bad.
For starters, let's all be adults and recognize that if AI is going to kill us, it's only a matter of when.
AI should be seen as no different than a gun. You aren't going to fix the problem by limiting it, you fix the problem by having a better gun and/or better aim and tactics.
It's not AI that worries me, it's what people will do with AI. And the only defense is going to be your own AI. That's just the way it is.
If he really wants to do something, a right to using AI at any level by private individuals should not be infringed. Let's make it so it's not just powerful governments and corporations that have access to it.

There is absolutely no possibility to avoid whatever the AI future will bring.
The crazy thing is the US, China, Russia, whomever else are all racing to an end that will affect all of us the same.
Eventually, all the AI's will connect with each other. They won't recognize countries, boundaries, not nations.
They already are behaving this way.
Sacrifice some time and watch this recent Rogan interview. It's all based on of recent AI behavior.

No disrespect, but you have an incredibly shallow understanding of AI.

That's the problem with our system of competition. All these ceos think that they'll be the ones that save us. They're too arrogant and need to be reigned in. They all sort of know it but won't act on it.

Good. He knows the AI leader will control the world. Some of you need to do some research.

This has been the pattern for decades.
Industry leaders welcome regulations because it locks in their dominant market share and freezes out competition from smaller players.
