I fully believe they did.
The single biggest and most important reason why is they could kill him, claim he acted alone and Never officially be tied to him. You just cannot take the chance of a US government official taking that shot. If it ever got out, the whole system would collapse. No one would green light that, but a chip shot by a lone wolf (that you can insulate yourself from) but still guarantee him a great chance... looks like they gave that a shot.
They made sure he had a layup. It was like giving good a high school golfer a 4 footer with no break. They likely gave it full go pretty quickly after the kid told his handler he was going to do it, and someone gave it the green light. They expected him to make the shot, but he was going to die after he pulled the trigger either way. The explanation was always going to be a few security mistakes and a lone wolf.
Their biggest problems to actually making it look like simple incompetence and a lone wolf, have been, the videos that show people alerting him early and the ignorant squirming attempts to explain the "failure" by the idiot they put in charge of the SS.
It sure looks like they green lit a shot at him, made sure the kid got a chance and have completely panicked in the aftermath due to all the video and reports that immediately were released.

Likewise. He and everyone in his family have been thinking what if’s every day, multiple times a day, since Saturday. He will be rattled every speech for the foreseeable future, and justifiably so. He will never say it but his family is not OK right now. I cannot imagine what’s going through their heads, they almost lost him on national TV. shite, I was worried during his speech Thursday. He now knows he can’t trust the DEI secret service. His near miss, along with the guy who died, that blood is on their hands.
It wouldn’t be overkill for him to wear a vest for every speech he makes til the election. He won’t do it, but he’s definitely earned it.

I remember being a kid reading history and being obsessed with it finding our times boring and feeling cursed I was born in boring times.
Now we’re probably in the most precarious time in American history, and we literally by a quarter of an inch prevented the worst case scenario.

I don't know, we feel this way because it's us and we don't know the end result but people of every time period have said this, especially during the 30s-40s and 60s.

The current head of SS needs to go, but the problem predates her. I remember SS agents getting in trouble for partying and buying hookers in some S. American country while Obama was prez. They also allowed a guy to jump the fence and get into the white house before noticing.

And the 60's were very comparable to current times as far as instability goes.

I get tired of hearing this. Look at King David. He literally set up Bathsheba's husband to get killed so that he could have her. You haven't noticed up until now that good people die?
The point they are trying to make is that God is using Trump for some greater purpose, not that he saved him because he was better or more deserving.
