Yeah, I get it, but that's the facade that everyone is supposed to maintain.
Including the court that made the dumb-arse ruling in the first place.

If the NCAA is really a "monopoly," then the term has lost all relevant meaning.
I don’t think SCOTUS claimed the NCAA was a monopoly. They just declared that NCAA rules restrict free trade in violation of the Sherman Act. You don’t have to be a monopoly to violate the Sherman Act.

I think you may be right, but my overall position remains.
When the court rules that two private parties can't enforce a contract in which each forgoes specified opportunities for consideration in a mutual agreement, I think it's absurd.
If I can contract with a company as an independent contractor and part of the agreement states that I can't take advantage of certain financial/business opportunities that would otherwise be available to me, I don't understand how the court can prohibit the NCAA and athletes from doing the same thing.

And it won’t hold up in the courts. Trump loves those EOs, treats the US like a private business then whines when people who interpret law overturn his silliness.

Didn’t he do an EO for no Trans in Sports? How’d that work out?

Hopefully, when CFB sees how most people want this, they'll fall in line. I think he should have changed the transfer rule back to what it was, like the NCAA said it would do when covid ended
The transfer rule was dismantled by the Ohio v. NCAA ruling in USDC in West Virginia in 2023 (?) The court ruled that transfer limits violated antitrust laws because they restrain free trade.

If history serve me, I believe President Theodore Roosevelt was said to have intervened and "saved" college football, in response to calls for banning the sport because of extreme violence and 18-19 fatalities and over 100 seriously injured in 1905. He formed a commission to formulate rules to "clean up" the sport.
So, its been done before......
that is where he gets the authority. I believe that is called precedent.

Exactly. Unlimited NIL is killing college sports
Attempts to limit income is one reason why we have antitrust laws.
Can you imagine how butt hurt you’d be if the government put a limit on how much people can charge for a hour of lawn mowing services?
I mean if you were in the lawn mowing industry and I’m not suggesting that you are.

This is what I voted for. An executive order demanding a non government agency to do something while we spend billions on the Middle East
You would have to be essentially brain dead to be celebrating this as a win

What part of the constitution allows colleges to receive money from the federal government?
I agree with you in principle but this is what you get when you exceed the enumerated powers of government- more government.

You sure about that? Do non government agencies get away with not paying taxes, without the govrt allowing them to do so? And arent public universities govt universities, with a govt charter and govt appointed boards and everything??
quote:
Most private universities operate as 501(c)(3) organizations under the tax code. This IRS designation means it is a nonprofit that serves a public or charitable mission. These nonprofits don’t have to pay federal taxes and can receive tax-deductible donations.
Because public universities are already government entities, they don’t need to apply for 501(c)(3) status.

Do I think we have bigger problems? Yes.
Are there serious problems in college football demanding solutions? Yes
Are there other entities which should be tasked with fixing the problems in college sports? Yes
Does anyone else have the political will, authority, and desire to actually address any of the problems without actively making them worse? No
For that reason, I appreciate the President introducing some common sense into collegiate athletics. The unlimited transfer portal shenanigans had gotten out of control, and none of the current stakeholders in CFB have the authority, leverage, or desire to put a stop to it.
Collegiate admissions, Title IX, and athletic scholarships are all heavily regulated by the federal government, so it’s not like the president has zero authority here.
