Illegals will run for Mexico out of fear of getting sent to El Salvador. The "detention" there will be unmerciful.

Even if the doesn't work for whatever reasons, just the optics of Trump at least attempting to find a solution to a problem on the fly that also builds goodwill with another country in the process. He's starting to look like a foreign relations master.

Yeah, probably.
But it's almost certainly going to save us money. Because if you are in country illegally and you know you might be sent to an El Salvador prison when you get caught, you'd be well advised to get the hell out on your own.
The amount of self-deporting will be epic if this goes through.
Months ago I was posting that we should pass a law to simply imprison any illegal caught in country after a certain date for 10 years or so. Something sufficient to motivate mass self-deporting.
This is way better, even if it costs us some money (my idea would have too).
Our laws don't allow for the degree of motivation that the threat of their prisons provide.
This is genius.

We should do this with El Salvador and the Philippines. We bring them illegals they process them as they see fit.

Increased economic incentives, federal aid to build/staff the prisons, and increasing favor in the future.

They become an Amazon distribution center, but for criminals instead of Chinese junk. They house them in one of their giant prisons at a cost of $.350 per day, get paid $50 by the US to hold them, then feed them to the crabs once they are kilt in prison. Win/win
