All I now about this is that my golfing partner (fighter pilot in VN and same age as McCain) said that everyone knew he flunked the simulator tests but was passed because of his dad. He also had some bailouts causing loss of plane during non combat exercises. He had no business being a pilot which contributed to him being shot down.

Hero or not, "serious money" & "beer" is a big part of my own American dream, not the remarried part though.

A cousin of mine served on the Forrestal and has talked to me about it. He was a jet aircraft mechaninic and remembered it well.
Never mentioned that anyone was at fault> Said that there was an electrical malfunction that set off the missle. He said it was pretty dicey on deck for a pretty good while.
Yall want to talk about fake news? He never even mentioned anything about McCain.
Y'all should be ashamed questioning McCain's war record to glorify your idol.

I stopped reading at "ask Palin". Sarah Palin should have never been VP. They picked her because of her gender because they thought it would get them votes. Lol @ blaming McCain for anything related to Palin.

And the ridiculous part is that his policy views, can--and in my opinion--should, be heavily criticized. And those criticisms have a substantive purpose.

It says a lot about the author when he focuses on useless character criticisms instead of policy criticisms.

He is a piece of shite as a Senator. PERIOD.

So then what is your assessment of the President? Based on his own actions, comments, tweets, etc....it can't be up to par with Sen McCain...

What? Disdain for McCain's hawkish mentality is one of the few things that the Trumpkins, NeverTrumpers, libertarians, and progressives can agree on.

Reality is literally the opposite of whatever you're arguing.

Hmmm, on a scale of 1-10 with 1 = Obama and 10 = Ronald Reagan:
Trump is an 8. McCain is a 2.

Heroism is subjective as this board has proven. For instance, Malcolm X is a hero to some and a villain to others.

Can you elaborate on this? Not saying it's true or not but my recollection of the campaign is that Palin sunk herself on her own. If anything, he should be shite on for "tapping" her in the first place.

Palin was a precursor for the Trump model. McCain - being the RINO, was taken aback re Palin's honest and bold criticism of Obama...and jumped her for it. Publically in the heat of the campaign. The Tea Party Wing adopted Palin...and abandoned McCain, and he got toasted.

If you'll notice, McCain's 'brave' and principled Congressional stands are always against his own Party's Conservative Wing. He is the epitome of the RINO brand...and therein the reason for Progressive hegemony in this Nation. And being that Progressive Ideology is polar to the Constitutional version...one could label enabling of such hegemony...as....*&&%%&&***^^!

His Military record speaks for itself. All of it!

Presenting historical facts = ragging?

That's a stretch champ.

He put the lives of thousands of Americans in danger in the USS Forrestral disaster. Over 100 men died, hundred more maimed and injured. He got away with it because of his dad and grandfather, yet neocons like you still think he's a hero because he was shot down and sat in a POW camp for six years. He is wreckless to say the least both as a aviator and politician.
Trump is correct when he says McCain is NOT a hero. Maybet McCain did some sort of heroic type effort survival things like living through torture as did so many others during their capture but being a POW does not equate to being a hero.

Audi Murphy is a hero.

McCain used to practice "wet starts" on his aircraft carrier. When a pilot wants to be a wise arse or show off, this type of engine start creates a large startling flame and lots of surprise noise from the rear of a jet engine on start up–this was no accident. This and the large subsequent electrical surge and apparent (incorrect and against policy) weapon arming (by the pilot) caused the launching of a powerful Zuni rocket across the carrier’s deck hitting other parked planes (photo below) that were packing 1,000 high-explosive pound bombs. The subsequent massive explosions, fire and destruction went several decks below and nearly sunk this major 82,000 ton U.S. aircraft carrier.
This stunt and aftermath caused the deathof 134 sailors and seriously injure (blow off arms legs, cause blindness and burns to another 161 sailors) and took the ship off the battle line for extensive repairs. Any other Navy pilot causing this type of death and destruction the Navy would have raped him and he would probably still be in the brig. Why not McCain? Well, first with many powerful connections this “little infraction” was covered up by the Navy (our most politically involved/connected service by the way). You see his grandfather was a famous FOUR STAR Navy admiral and his dad was at the time of the incident was a powerful Navy FOUR STAR admiral and McCain graduated from the Navy Academy. So the old boy Navy tradition cover his arse network went into high gear immediately; and make no mistake, it does exist and it did for him.

Wow. I did not know about this.
