Trump is just not good at governing. He's good at running.

Why antagonize middle class voters in Blue states whose votes we need to keep the House?

Increasing the SALT deduction benefits the wealthy. The number one complaint Democrats have about Trump is that all he wants to do is run the country into the ground by providing tax breaks for the rich and here he is doing the exact opposite. Trump knows how to manage those high NY taxes. Pack up and move to Florida.

Texas property taxes are insane. Why should I have to pay taxes on my taxes? This number is astronomical for me, it is no small amount.

Its 10% of households and its not a TAX you knucklehead, its a deduction

And it means someone in other parts of the country will have increased federal taxes to offset the idiots who chose to live in high tax states.

SALT deductions help the wealthy. Minimal benefit to the middle class, and even then it's likely upper middle class.

In NY they definitely do, people in LI and upstate vote Trump and use SALT to write off their property taxes

Who gives a shite? California and New York have made it as clear as can be that they are true blue no matter what. Dumbasses vote for higher taxes, they need to eat them.

I had to pay extra in Arkansas under Trump during his first fours years so I have skin in this game. His tax breaks, economy and market performance more than made up for it. Also allowed me to finally realize tax breaks that Obama had robbed me of.

SALT deductions are very similar to student loans, once the feds took on the debt, the schools rocketed tuition.

With SALT, once the feds took in less tax, the states jacked up their share.

Anyone complaining about SALT should be bitching at their state reps and governor, not the fact that the feds want to take away the crack cocaine.

I didn’t realize that the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty was an issue today.

And would help Texas too… all the Texas reps should be behind this.

Without CA and NY, Republicans cannot win the House. That’s why this is such a big deal. If my choices are SALT deduction, but win the House, it’s an easy decision.

A lot of the middle class itemizes. Especially if they are self employed.

Neither one of those seem fair. Paying over 50% in total income taxes should be against the Constitution.

Add in gasoline tax, property tax, license and registration tax, sales tax and a few more and you are way above 50%

As an aside, when I lived in Ohio and paid state and local taxes I deducted that from my federal tax but when I moved to Florida with no income tax I found out my property taxes were higher than my state and local taxes in Ohio

and without the SALT cap, you lose "pay fors", which means you lose tax cuts for the rest of the country.

So that deduction for NY and CA, R's and D's alike, are partially paid by the rest of the country indirectly through fed taxes while the states of NY and CA reap the benefit from imposing higher taxes.

NY property tax comes in various extremes. Capping the deduction put a lot of very large homes on the market at lower prices.

Why not both? Don’t play the false game that tax cuts have to be “paid for.”
