Retirement is for people who worked.
Since you've never worked, it doesn't really affect you.

i invest each month for my retirement and will still be able to retire at 59.5 with only my 401k and IRA's. I'm already planning to not touch social security until 65 at the earliest and could go to full retirement age before taking it if I want to.

Maybe better suited for the money board, but I am in the same boat, except I will retire in just over two years.

My plan is to take SS at the earliest point possible, since I don't "need" it, but it's mine. And I feel like drawing on it for more months will increase my overall benefit from SS. That said, family history suggests I won't live to be incredibly old, so this does play into my decision.

But my point is, if you don't need it, and the future is not guaranteed to any of us, maybe consider taking it as early as possible.

Who the frick wants to retire?

Find something that energizes you and keep doing it.

I watched my elders die too young at least partially due to a lack of purpose.

It isnt people drawing regular social security when eligible that's the problem. It's all the people on SSDI SSI survivor benefits and child disability that didn't pay in but are receiving proceeds.

When I was about 40 the federal govt broke this promise to me and raised the retirement age to 70. As a younger boomer I have already been subject to one major change in the system that negatively affected me.

You can take it a 62 as a reduced benefit.

Overall it’s just that we have WAY less people working per SS recipient. Bad problem

Why is social security always broke but you never hear one politician say there is no more money for welfare and food stamps?

Social security would be fine if congress stopped pulling funds out of the trust and other funny business to play accounting tricks with the budgets.

I contributed to Social Security for over 57 years, making my last payments into the system in March. What you don't generally see are the annual increases in premiums before you max out for the year. My last few years, I had to pay all year as the maximum had increased beyond my salary.

I started drawing SS at my full retirement of 66 due to the requirement for me to have Medicare B and be on the TRICARE rolls. I went ahead so it'd be taken out of my SS and I didn't have to screw around with quarterly payments.

One thing I did get was an annual increase due to continuing to work. My salary from ages 66 to 73 was enough to increase my high years used and I got somewhere from .75% to a full 1% increase annually. I'll get my last increase in October.
