So that employers would have to personally advocate and vouch for each worker they want to keep, an organized process.

Why aren't the employers being prosecuted for hiring illegal aliens?

Curious where the PT stands on this.

I don't think bringing back good, hardworking immigrants is a bad idea especially in industries that need them.

Yes, we desperately need them! -- otherwise heads of lettuce will skyrocket to $10 a head and our lawns won't get cut forever!

OH WAIT

Bad idea. Lazy. And abetting the criminal allowance of invaders to begin with.

Already tens of millions of border jumpers invaded America across the towns and cities of the USA. This "floated plan"? A BS smoke & mirrors scheme to excuse the illegal invasion and not having to complete the necessary job of deportation. Let's not forget the millions of military-age men who were red carpeted by treasonous NGOs from Chyna and C. America.

I have no problem with legal immigrants.

Democrats fricked it for everyone when they left the back door open in order to create a permanent voter base dependent on govt cheese.

So it should be a blind system? The 50 year old day laborer from Venezuela with TB should be treated the same as a 25 year old Japanese Neurosurgeon when it comes to a work visa?

They should never be able to vote, become a citizen, get welfare, and same with their kids.

I get what you're saying.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess the process currently or previously in place for getting workers the right way may have been onerous... not an excuse, mind you.

Maybe, with a hard reset... there will be simplified provisions for obtaining and being responsible for workers, with more oversight.

Or maybe it is just the quickest, easiest way to skin the cat. I'm okay with that.

Because they fund political campaigns and have lobbyists working every day in DC.

Of course, the real problem is lack of immigration law reform. There should have been work visas for these people.

It will be interesting if they suspend minimum wage requirements.

Kinda agree here.
If they have no arrest record and they come the right way ok a 2nd chance.
But, never be allowed to apply for citizenship and if on public assistance within the first 5 years they have to go back.
Would carve out an exception to citizenship if the served a 4 year military commitment and were honorably discharged.

I disagree on this part. You incentivize their employers to guide the process towards legal citizenship (as in if they aren't working towards that goal they are fined heavily). If they eventually meet the criteria to earn citizenship, they get it.

They should not be "given" voting rights or anything else until they've met those established goals.

Exactly... this is on the heads of our 535 critters. I'm pleased Trump is trying to find some work arounds that all parties can live with.

Honestly, not the worst idea if they have no criminal background.

If they are here illegally, they have a criminal background. That's what MAGA has been saying for 10 years.

I don't agree with this part. Don't half-arse it. Either deport them and don't allow them back, or let them enter legally and start the process towards citizenship. No sitting on the fence with some weird stipulations.

Not if they don't get caught before they self deport and get in line the right way.

I think we need to require proof the businesses cannot staff with American workers instead before we bring them back

Umm dude, this is something conservatives have been saying for quite some time and something Trump has endorsed in the past. Pay attention for once in your life and maybe you will catch a clue.

Wow! I love this. This will force accountability for employers who hire migrants.

And people need to get away from the idea that this is a "farmer" and service industry only issue. Most people would be surprised to find out the industries that rely, at least to some extent, on illegal immigrant workers.

That's the way it works now... lotta red tape, which incentivizes illegal labor.

How about we skip that part this time, but add on a requirement that any American citizen wanting that job has first dibs, period.
