The actual things cut so far are dollars leaving our economy or money going to complete bullshite that serves no purpose and will have zero impact on the economy. Cutting things like healthcare will be trickier and take more time to prevent collapsing the system before it can be fixed. There is a ton of wasteful spending in our healthcare system, but much of it is forced by bullshite regulations and antiquated systems, rules etc that have never been audited or updated. We need a full accounting of the waste and fraud. Eliminate the fraud immediately and start minimizing the waste. You keep that money in the system by returning it to taxpayers and investing in fixing the problems. I have faith they'll find that balance.

Simply firing people that are on probabtionary periods without looking into whether they were based on promotions or simply brand new workers is an example.
A ton of government workers are useless, and no one can deny that, but punishing someone for being promoted (some of whom may have actually earned it through had work and actual qualifications) is ridiculous.
Does it make the guys doing it bad? No. They have good intentions and are trying to make things better. That doesn’t mean that you can’t take out huge chunks of waste/cancer without saving the good.
Once again, any time we see hasty acts like this by any side, there are often severe and unintended consequences.
I just don’t want to see what happened to my home state happen again to anyone.

So you want to continue to flush billions down the toilet for a handful of people?
DEI and hyper-politicization meant that a legit promotion happening was pretty much a myth.
You would have to be a moron to think otherwise.

Biden did massive damage, no doubt, but Trump did a ton in his first term as well.
Trump did not add to the federal workforce. It was business as usual. Biden used the treasury to mask his disastrous economic policies by turning the federal government into an employment agency.

I’m pretty sure Louisiana was jacked up way before Jindal.
It’s sad that New Orleans is all that people talk about when mentioning Katrina. The damage in NO was from Democrat corruption, not hurricane damage.
Mississippi got hit harder than anyone by Katrina.
Those levies failed because Democrats were in charge.

The problem is they are simply cutting things with little thought to the long term effects
Give some examples.

Being a pragmatist,
Sure you are.
First, Jindal’s first term was so good that he was re-elected in a landslide, 65.80% to the democrat’s 17.88% in the jungle. Just imagine what a head to head election would have been. 80% is possible and likely.
Second, the first two years of Jindal’s second term were just as successful. Then came the “I’m running for President” Jindal. He stopped being governor, and left Louisiana in free fall during hard economic times. The hard times were not his fault, but his inaction was criminal!!! These totally crappy two years totally blemished his first six, and transformed a great legacy into one of the worst in Louisiana history. And rightfully so. A pox on Bobby.

They were all excited about a guy that would go through our government and slash jobs and systems to save money.
Wrong!
This is what made Jindal’s first six years great!
It was his hands off management style to prevent controversy in his presidential bid that made bad national and world economic trends into the disaster he left us.!
You espouse the wrong lessons!
Therefore your psychic prognostications after less than a month of Trump’s new administration are full of shite!

IMO the problem is Trump is doing this mainly via EOs, which have less teeth and judges can block because some of his executive authority regarding a few of these cases is very dubious and lacks precedent
He should be asking Congress to pass these laws. Why isnt he doing that?
That is what his legacy will be judged on. If it can be undone as easily as it is done, or simply built back just the same over time, he will have accomplished nothing of substance. It would be par for the course for our governance over the past many decades.

Wait, you think Louisiana wasn’t fricked up before Jindal? LOL
Posted on 2/15/25 at 1:13 pm to Geauxgurt
Are you kidding? These cromagnons still pine for the days of Mike duck blind Foster and think his little toady Jindal was a great governor. They will never learn, accept blame, or admit they’ve fallen for the ol’ razzle dazzle once again.
