Forget Canada as 51st state. I’d rather give them Minnesota.

I wonder how Canadians feel about their country’s bullying tarriffs.

I’m sure that a lot of them, mainly in Ontario, like sticking it to the US.

They are about to learn that the party is over.

A trade of MN for Alberta would be acceptable.

Banff & Calgary are amazing.

But I don't really see the end game here, and the messaging shifts don't really help.

Why is it hard to understand?

As of 2024, Canada had tarriff's on the US. Canada relies on the US for like 70% of its GDP. US relies on canada for under 4% of our GDP.

Trump is therefore using his leverage that Canada depends much more on the US than US does Canada, to get Canada to do things financially for the US.

Its really that simple.

Some of you people are just the type that would rather live in a shithole than make a change in your life for the better.

Am I convinced this will 100% work? No, but I have no issue trying.

Hey man,

Fix your fricking threads. Every single one that isn’t a YouTube video is a blind link, posted without quotes or even a simple synopsis.

It's funny that you explain it this way and you don't explain this to the people ITT saying Canada's response being a declaration of war. They are using their leverage just as you explained Trump using the American leverage. Tit for tat. Nothing close to a "declaration of war".

Goodness.

It's hard to understand because, as noted, the premise for tariffs on Canada were not reciprocal. So either a) the premise was pretext or b) the premise shifted after the fact.

I don't know the answer to what Trump is trying to do. The trade imbalance with Canada will not be solved by Canada eradicating tariffs that nobody thinks are a major obstacle to trade and which the US previously agreed to and lived with (including during Trump's first administration).

So what are we trying to do an how does questioning that mean we're "content to live in a shithole"

ART OF THE DEAL, brother. Why be stuck with genuine policy demands/preferences when you can just claim constantly changing it is negotiations taught in Trump's book? This is how Trump can, at the same time, offer generic policy proclamations with no detail AND make different insane/silly demands simultaneously.

Why would he reveal his position in a negotiation? ART OF THE DEAL

He really thinks of things as though it's reality competition tv show.

What's crazy is that putting a tariff on goods from Canada ......affects producers in the US. They sell us raw aluminum.....what do people on this board think we do with that....stare at it? No, we take and turn it into something useful and more profitable. All the Canadians ask for in return is a fair price at reasonable market rates..

Will the energy emergency let him bypass or expedite the means of energy production and infrastructure?

I think that is the reason for the "emergency".

It's not really an emergency, but it allows him more freedom in responding.
