Trump just put the "hold up" blame on the repubs.

If Repubs do this is it'll end up being a win for the Dems in the long run. The dumbasses that are whining about how this is effecting them don't care about how important the filibuster is to control the crazies.

I don't know if possible but if they can drop it down to 55 then that could lessen the blow in the future, or something else, that could maybe help. But unless the Repubs plan on going whole hog to drop the filibuster moving forward to get shite down to stay in power then we are screwed in the future.

This is a one time fix right now to stop people, who won't vote repub anyway, from whining. Giving future Dems the one thing they seemed to have respected some.

We need to find a way to punish the FAA and TSA people that are calling in sick. They are going to get paid either way and it's BS they are such horrible people who don't have savings knowing this is always a possibility.

Dems have zero respect for Due Process or Rule of Law. After what we witnessed in the last 8 years we know that is a given. I think Trump is laying the public sentiment groundwork for riding in as ‘savior’ and opening the government back up. Also pushing through REAL election reform which guarantees honest elections while zapping gerrymandered districts will virtually end the possibility of Dem control of Federal Government.

Trump is a gambler and I think he’ll use the bully pulpit to force Republicans to do it as the SNAP fiasco escalates. And the ‘Snappers’ will rejoice.

I'd be more amenable to suspending the rules and passing a bill to pay these people during a shutdown (permanently).

You can’t have rioting in the streets and the National Guard quelling an an angry group hellbent in burning and looting all major cities.

Trump will be blamed and the Dems win.

It is time to consolidate real power. The Dems FA and now they find out.

Make the people happy. Go full force after the shutdown Dems. Play the Trump card.

Start prosecutions and passing even more smaller bills. Eliminate more waste and channel the benefits back to the people.

The benevolent Trump ended this and the people will start to demand the Dems pay.

Time to take control of the narrative. Time to roll the Dem heads figuratively.

When the Dems get back into power, they will destroy everything.

It is time to nuke the left wing nut jobs now.

That's great and all but won't be a win at all, especially in the long run.

I get the "why" behind why Trump wants it, but like I said...it's shortsighted.

Yes the Dems don't care about due process, but this is one theyve been kept in check on. When they get in power again, nothing can be said when they want to make DC/ PR to be states and to increase SCOTUS justices.

This is giving them a win now and later. This is spiking the ball on 4th down.

If we had a media that was truly in the center than maybe this could work, but we have "snappers" who aren't going to learn the lesson we need taught. Nothing changes cause Repubs are always playing defense against the Dems. For goodness sake there are people out there thinking the new ballroom cost $3b, and the reason their snap is being held up. Those people aren't going to learn shite.

We have women with 8 kids getting 3k/month in snap and no jobs. We aren't going to fix anything if we keep throwing in the towel

I think he knows that the Dems hold power only by virtue of their cheating, and that with bold action while in power, they can’t win again. Stephen Miller is very smart and you can book it that they have a comprehensive strategy. We only hear the clean stuff but we can imagine what is happening behind the public fluff.

Regardless, we are at the point of either-or. It’s all or nothing. That know this.

RCD, I love you buddy, but this insane. People have to stop thinking that it's all-or-nothing right now. That pendulum is going to swing back one day and you're going to want something to fight back with.

You might be right, Bunk, but the Dems have shown themselves to be ruthless. I think we have a window of opportunity to clean up our elections and if we lose it to the rigged (ballot harvesting/illegal voting) version then the Constitutional Republic is gone anyway. And maybe it is time anyway as the coming High Tech alters traditional economic and social order.

Be well Brother.

Don’t do it.

This whole narrative is “the Pubs can fix this and they won’t” which is the wrong narrative. Dems could fix this tomorrow by not being bitches.

Nope. When the Democrats exercised the nuclear option to get rid of the filibuster for judicial picks, they did it with a simple majority vote.

I am YUGELY against this. Just remember, there’s going to come a time when Democrats are back in charge and we cannot afford to have them be able to enact their entire demented and deranged agenda with simple majority votes in both houses.

This is such a loser mentality. Dems wont hesitate to do it

i called for this in a thread a few days ago and got downvoted into oblivion, but it’s the way.

as someone else mentioned, the average American does not give a shite how you open the government, they just want to see it open.

I also don’t think it sets the precedent that so many are worried about (aka nuking the filibuster for every little thing). to me, it sets the precedent that you can nuke the filibuster to end a shutdown and that’s it. but even if the Dems take advantage of it in the future, so what? elections have consequences - if they ever control all three bodies, then we deserve the ramifications (and have the opportunity to take the House back every two years).

Despite pressure from the far left, democrats haven’t done it yet when they have had power. For the first two years of the Biden presidency, he had a majority in both chambers. There will calls to eliminate the 60 vote filibuster, and many people thought they were gonna do it. But they resisted because they realized Republicans will also have the same type of majority again one day.

Really bad idea to end the filibuster.

Without the filibuster, Obama and Democrats would have nationalized local police, they would have passed laws giving federal government control.of local elections, they would have forced one payer healthcare, they would have made illegal aliens citizens with amnesty, they would have removed all border protections and allowed anyone to come into the US for whatever purpose and for as long as they wanted.

That is just a start of why the filibuster should never be eliminated.

Let’s hope this is a judo move by Trump to shine a light - and force the media to be honest - that is truly is they democrats keeping the government closed. And that republicans are trying to reopen it. And the only way at this point is the skirt stonewalling democrats.

TLDR, Don’t actually do it, but threaten to make democrats cave..

Can Republicans eliminate the filibuster now, and put in back in place later? While have majority, use it, then just in case, reverse it?

Yep. If you get rid of the filibuster you might as well get rid of the Senate because at that points it's just a smaller House.

Can't support Trump on this one. Can you imagine an unrestrained democrat majority? Terrifying

I wish it was a law that our congresspeople and senators could not leave the capitol building if the budget was not passed. Make them stay there on the floor, not sleeping in their office.

But working. Doing what they are paid to do.

They can have a five minute bathroom break every hour and meals will be rice and beans and water.

Get to work sparky. You want to go home then finish your required duties.

The hesitancy in this thread is pretty funny. Trump seems to have consolidated control over the majority of the GOP, which currently holds the trifecta. P2025 is the blueprint so no need for hemming and hawing to slow down execution. Why not pop the restrictor plate off and go hog wild? If Trump’s vision will lead us to a golden age, why impede progress?
