True, not a lot of options with no money and very little fighting capable citizens left.

This is a terrible precedent for either side to set. We want the US to be able to negotiate in good faith with whoever is in charge. Not potentially or will be in charge eventually.... Imagine a Democrat wins the next cycle, and starts calling world leaders saying wait till trump gets out and I'll find your war no problem. It's an issue.

Did Reagan have zero correspondence with the Iranians prior to taking office regarding the hostages?

I don't know his runway with the money he has right now but it can't be much. Europe is tapped out and he will be left in the cold.

First, we do not know anything other than some mainstream media article. For all you know Biden asked Trump to talk to him. We know nothing.

Second, explain to me who is in charge?

a vacuum perhaps you're right

We have a completely feeble and absent POTUS and an incapable VP who hasn't been involved in governance for multiple months. The country is leaderless and being run by bureaucrats who are all now lame ducks at high levels.

So, is the alternative to mostly just sit idly by while the war rages for 3 more months before any meaningful effort to talk about where we go from here can begin?

I think this type of thing could be handed off. I definitely think having officials negotiate before they have all the facts is a bad idea... That transition team and time are super important to get a good handoff and exchange of power. If it's coordinated with Biden no issue. If it's just trump back channeling it and then bringing in Elon(which is strange) that would be bad precedent no matter what anyone feels about current situation.

What are the Russian demands for things to come to an end?

We know Ukraine wants territory back, which won’t happen, and they’ll have no choice but to give up that territory, or risk losing financial/military support from the US. Is Putin ok with taking the land they have now, bringing the war to an end, and have Ukraine’s military and country still being financed and supported by the US?
