I tried to look into it and the trail ends with the tweet. It's just a Christian conservative in Ohio who said a physician told him it was happening at said physician's hospital. A bunch of people asked for names/more details in the comments and nothing was ever said about it.

I think people can probably move on here. Assuming it's false, it's obviously not helpful, because it takes attention away from the more common evils of telling 5 year olds they're the opposite sex, hormone therapy for adolescents, etc.

It isn't.

It's very rare thankfully but there is such a thing as genetic hermaphroditism (people born with both sexual characteristics) and surgery is often a prescribed treatment. The problem is that they typically do this surgery in infancy and then sometimes the person grows up and realizes you picked the wrong side of the coin so I think there has been a shift in delaying the surgery until the kid demonstrates predominant social characteristics of a preferred gender.

That *might* be what's happening here, in which case the family is entitled to privacy and sympathy. I feel bad for those people obviously because they were essentially born with a birth defect.

Now virtue signaling parents (or doctors) who want to mutilate the perfectly normal genitals of a kid because they saw him playing with a doll are a completely different matter...
