Polls exist to drive donations. If R donors think it’s a tight race they will open the checkbook.

Who Cornyn couldn’t beat.

A wise GOP should have foreseen this and gotten behind Wesley Hunt.

Trump intervening certainly didn't help

Why would Trump intervening matter especially since he is so unpopular? Trumps perceived unpopularity should have helped Cornyn

Is there anything you don’t blame Trump for?

Texas GOP leaders should have foreseen this and planned accordingly.

I'm not blaming him for Paxton being a piece of shite. He did that on his own.

Trump endorsed Paxton in the primary and in republican primaries he absolutely can move the needle.

The radical Left and Bush-style GOP Pubs would absolutely love to see Talafreako win but I don’t think Texas as a whole is quite yet that far gone off the path of common sense.

Maybe it's some 20/20 hindsight but it shouldn't have taken a genius to figure out that Trump was cool on Cornyn; and everyone knew that Trump couldn't be controlled.

From the beginning they should have given 50/50 odds that Trump would torpedo Cornyn. The easy button is to blame Trump, but when you know how he operates and fail to plan around him, that's on you.

In the Trump era, polls notoriously under value Republicans.

Paxton will win by 2%. Considering how bad Talarico is, it shouldn't be that close....

Hunt waited too long because his consultant, J Roe Axiom stratgies who is now paxton's consultant, was trying to get guarantees for Hunt ,, those promises never came, but the posturing was so long and hard That's what she said Wes got in but the commitment had been made to others

The real mover and shaker behind all this is Ted Cruz his finance chair son-in-law is now going to be the congressman from CD38, which was Wesley's Hunt old district a guy named Jon Bonk who I think people here will like,

There is a theory one that I dont particularly buy into that this is also done to get rid of paxton because he couldn't be beaten at the grassroots level in the primary but a lot of people knew he would never survive a general , he's so dirty

which I was advocating

Ken Paxton is a bad candidate, possibly the worst candidate running for a statewide office in Texas since Clayton Williams ran for governor in 1990.

This is the perfect storm for Republicans in Texas-- a corrupt candidate who's an ethical and moral disgrace and who has the full endorsement of a president who has a 68% job performance disapproval rating (75% disapproval by independents, Hispanics and voters under 29).

Clayton Williams was a bad candidate because he was just too much of a country boy
He was not nearly as corrupt as paxton is

What's funny is all these people that love Trump believing that he was gonna drain the swamp in DC I mean he certainly has shaken things up in DC
but there is no bigger swamp creature in politics than what paxton has done in Texas basically selling the services of the state's chief law enforcement officer to the highest bidder

But these people think paxton is great because the tweets they follow tell them he is . And paxton certainly has been politically savvy by taking on the high-profile cases that MAGA likes,, but has done nothing for actual law enforcement in Texas; see O'Donnell v Harris Co.

Right. The Trump effect (if there even is one) doesn't apply to candidates like Paxton because it's not actually Trump on the ballot.
