Liberalism is a mental disorder.

After weeks of tense and raucous meetings, a divided Seattle City Council is voting Monday whether to tax the city's largest businesses to raise money to fight homelessness.
Councilmembers who advanced a proposal out of committee on a 5-4 vote Friday want businesses with more than $20 million in gross revenues, such as Amazon and Starbucks, to pay roughly $500 a year per full-time worker.
The so-called "head tax," or tax on employee hours, would raise about $75 million a year to build affordable housing units and pay for homeless services.
Nearly 600 businesses would pay the head tax, but Amazon, the city's largest employer, would take the biggest hit. The company has more than 45,000 workers, and would pay more than $20 million a year under the tax. It would likely owe even more when the tax switches to a 0.7 percent tax on business payroll in 2021.
quote:
Supporters say businesses that have benefited from Seattle's prosperity and contributed to growing income inequality can and should pay.
We need "to make sure we have a livable city for everybody in our community and that there's a sense of shared prosperity and shared responsibility," Councilmember Mike O'Brien said Friday after the council meeting.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.

All that shite is stupid. It all works under the assumption that for one man to gain wealth, it must be stolen from another man.

I sooooo hope this passes .

And in tomorrow's news, Seattle's new "$500/employee Tax for the Homeless" fund is being redirected to another government department after a ratification of the law was voted on Sunday at 2am.

Gonna be a lot more homeless in Seattle when these businesses fire all of their employees and move away.

Wonder where Amazon will be relocating.

Is that on employees working in just a Seattle office or employees across an entire company if they have a location in Seattle?

Ironically the tax to pay for the homeless will create more homeless people.

JBE will be flying to Seattle to find out how to implement such a tax across the state.

I kind of want to see how poorly it goes. And how quickly it goes poorly.
But you also have to be careful of copycat cities run by morons around the country that will be advocating for similar stupidity despite the eventual massive failure of this proposed law.

It's like leftists think money is free and businesses have unlimited money to hand out to the government to pay for stuff.
I hope all businesses up and move out of the area.

Exactly.
Of course, the money will be spent inefficiently and they'll be demanding more within a couple years. When it eventually collapses as the tax base leaves, those housing projects will be a nightmare.

So... Amazon's search for a 2nd HQ just turned into a relocation campaign...

Just when you thought they couldn't sink any lower
How about ridding your shithole city of drugs then watch the problem disappear.

They have already been shopping cities for a new campus. Wouldn't take anything to decide on 2 places and move the entire operation.
