Once Lehman Brothers collapsed, he couldn't have won if Obama got caught in bed with a dead girl AND a live boy.

Palin's nomination injected some energy into the campaign. She wasn't ready obviously BUT Nicole sandbagged her and did not prep her for the interview. Loved her speech at the convention but as I said, she wasn't prepped properly. Another reason to hate Nicole Wallace.

When he said Barrack was a great guy that was the end for him.

I can remember how angry I was when Romney suspended his campaign and handed the nomination to McCain. I knew then that the GOP was cooked going into November. It was my first presidential election I was eligible to vote in. I was so uninspired by McCain that I voted Libertarian that cycle. My dad and a few of his co-workers even wrote my name in on their ballots. So I was officially a presidential candidate in 2008.

It's so sad that he was the best we could come up with.

He actually was that year. Bush and Cheney made the GOP brand radioactive.

J-Mac had a longstanding "maverick" brand that somewhat disassociated him from the party. He could have made it closer by playing his hand better, but he never had a real chance to win.

Cheney would have gotten beat much worse.

The dude ran in 2000 and I was actually very impressed with him. He was 100X more impressive than George W. Bush, although that's admittedly a very low bar.

He ran again in 2008 and seemed like a totally different person. I guess he had become totally engrossed in the Swamp by then. And his later actions would prove it. He and his pal Lindsey Graham were virtually joined at the hip. Both of them hated Trump, but Graham "officially" changed his tune after McCain got sick and had to leave Washington.

It was almost like Graham had some sort of protection with McCain that he list when McCain died.

PS - One more thing about the traitor McCain. He actually cast the deciding vote on a bill that would've effectively killed Obamacare. I'll never forget watching Chuck Schumer giving McCain a high-five as as he went by him. Even Mitch McConnell was upset with McCain, or at least he was pretending to be upset.

The second worst Republican campaign of my lifetime.

Worst was Bob Dole.

McCain was nominated because of his hardline stance on the wars in the Middle East. When the financial crisis hit, he was easily out of his depth and looked every bit of it.

He was also terrified of being accused of racism.

This is the first time I can remember Republicans playing identity politics. That election was going to end up with a first time either way: First female VP or first minority president.

The financial crisis doomed the incumbent party of the White House, especially when it was the “party of the rich.”

That election was a perfect storm of circumstances against the GOP and they didn’t help themselves with their candidate choices.

I forgot about the “straight talk express”. They were hoping 60+ year olds that approved of the Iraq war would carry them to victory.

I didn't vote for McCain. The guy had a bad temper. Not good to have a president with a bad temper. I think he was involved in russiagate too. A total lowlife.

The Bushes and McCain are probably the Rs most responsible for waking us up to the uniparty and deep state.

I still think he could have won if he'd picked a different running mate. A Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul or Fred Thompson would have made a significant impact.

Thompson slept walked his way through the nomination process in a way that would make DeSantis envious.

Huckabee is and was a clown show.

McCain was far more likely to have chosen Lieberman as a running mate than Ron Paul.

As an ashamed McCain voter, I think he ran an OK campaign, but no republican was winning that year against Obama and following Bush.

Plus the smear campaign of Palin

SNL just ruthlessly went after her and the “I can see Russia from my house”

Kamala did not get near that type of scrutiny

And also, they ran into a buzz saw with Obama. The first “black” candidate but who was as much white as black .

I’ll always be grateful to John McCain for getting money out of politics with his bipartisan landmark McCain Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act.
