I'm not big on government welfare at all but when viewed in the light of prisoners getting 3 meals a day I can't believe we still don't just have one free meal a day for kids in school.

What say you?

they are forced to go to school. Why can't lunch be included and not viewed as a handout?

If we force them to be in school then we should feed them.

I do think this is one of those "handouts" that should exist. Public school is paid for by tax payers, so the lunch should be included in that bill which we pay.

I’m not poor. I pack my kids lunches myself with healthful foods.

A lot of kids get free lunches. What do they cost in public school now - a dollar or two?

That's what food stamps are for. Have their lazy arse do nothing parents pack their lunch with the money I pay in taxes.

I don't see the issue here.

Parents are forced to send them and truancy is a thing. I'm a tax payer, my second kid is almost done with grade school and I have always paid my kids lunches but to stigmatize lunch is ridiculous.

Why stop at lunch, why not breakfast and a supper to go?

Some get food given to them to take home over the weekend and some get fed in the summer for free as well.

What else can we do to make them depend on the gubment?

pack mine something sometimes as well but that's me. I can see how it may be difficult for some to do as I do.

Those parents who cannot or will not don't have to face any ridicule for not doing so.

I agree here. I would rather kids be fed with my money than people in prison. They're more than welcome to learn how to grow their own food and provide for themselves.

100% agree. Public school is paid by taxes, why can’t lunch? No kid is thinking either is a govt handout like welfare. Does anyone’s kids think the police or fire dept are government handouts? Kids have no concept of that because they aren’t writing a check to the sheriff. Though my kids spend their lunch money like they’re buying lunch for everyone else. Little assholes.

FREE SCHOOL LUNCH FOR ALL STUDENTS PROMISED IN BILL INTRODUCED BY SEN. SANDERS AND REP. OMAR

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) jointly introduced a bill Tuesday that would provide up to three free meals per day to all U.S. school children, regardless of family income level.

that's a damn shame it's the democrats sponsoring this bill. Would be a huge win for the republicans to get minority votes on something so insanely easy to incorporate in an already taxpayer funded system.

My thought is, that if the gvt is paying for it we should be paying for something healthier than Chicken Nuggets, and bring back recess and PE. So I’m fine with it if it’s not processed low rent McDonald’s fed to these kids 3 meals a day.

Basic nutrition is a freaking life skill and necessary for health long term. Plus you can’t learn anything in a carb coma.

Healthy school lunches may be the only thing I’ve ever agreed with Michelle Obama about, but only because they are government funded no matter WTF we say.

I fail to understand why if my tax dollars have to going towards something, why they don’t have to follow rules I would set for my own kids about health. If I’m not paying for it - it’s none of my business what you eat.

It’s just like the fricking EBT cards. Nothing makes my blood boil faster than standing behind someone with a shopping cart full of Cheetos and Mountain Dew and then whipping out an EBT card to pay for it with my money.

I don’t think anything on the inside aisles of the grocery store should be paid for with tax dollars. And I don’t think we need to feed 5 year olds shite that will
Make them develop diabetes by 12. Cook some vegetables dammit.

It doesn’t matter what GOPe clowns do the minorities will never vote for them. Trump is a perfect example. He’s barely getting any traction and he’s the Black communities saving grace.

Students from low income families already get free lunch at school.

Taxpayers don't need to pay for high income students to get free lunch as well.
