You're referencing a very important, yet very understated, set of data.
- A 2011 Swedish long-term cohort study followed 324 post-op individuals over 30 years (1973–2003) and found suicide mortality approximately 19 times higher than matched general population controls, with elevated suicide attempts and psychiatric hospitalizations persisting post-surgery.
- A 2024 U.S. study using a large database found post-op individuals had a 12-fold higher risk of suicide attempts compared to those without surgery, with risks 4–5 times higher even after adjustments.
- A 2024 California study observed suicide attempt rates doubling after vaginoplasty (male-to-female surgery, from 1.5% to 3.3%), but stable after phalloplasty (female-to-male); post-vaginoplasty rates were more than double the general population.
Those suffering from gender dysphoria and succumb to the surgery rhetoric end up facing suicide rates far exceeding the general population (lifetime attempts often 30–40% vs. ~4–5% generally). This is-was-and-always-will-be due to the problem being a mental and emotional disorder, not a physical one.
