To be fair though. Most Singaporeans are ethnically Chinese, and it’s not hard to imagine information sharing /cooperation with the CCP from Singaporean businesses or nationals.

Singapore is an interesting state. It’s true that most Singaporeans are ethnically Chinese but like Eastern Europeans, many have a living memory of living under communist oppression even if only through family members. They realize they live on a literal island surrounded by Muslims and Communists. They take their situation very seriously even though they do live under a thinly veiled authoritarian state aimed at not being Muslim or Communist.

Singapore was never under any communist rule. Most of the Han Chinese were brought by the British for labor purposes. a lot of Chinese were impoverished and countries needed labor to build infrastructure.

as for the neighboring Muslims, they have always been no match for Singapore. Singapore is an economic power house, and their system of semi Dictatorial government has always quashed unruly citizens.

Singapore is probably the most successful modern day authoritarian government. I find it funny that MUH democracy peddlers never acknowledge this fact. the only communist country in Southeast Asia is Vietnam. they are also proud of being communist but for some reason the West is okay with that. LOL.

Well, that and the US Navy's 5th Fleet parked right across the way.

I was there for a week last summer. It felt like it was more like a third that was of Chinese decent with Indian and Malaysian making up 1/3 each. English is the common language and everything there is done in English. Most of the people I met lived in govt provided housing. Everything is govt run for the most part.
It’s a beautiful place that is well maintained and very clean. Sort of expensive and super hot and humid.

If he’s in bed with the Chinese he won’t speak ill of them. If he’s not, it won’t matter and he’ll condem them for their dictatorship and crimes against humanity.

Seems like he’s reluctant to criticize.

Thank you.

What is sad is that the guy you responded to who said that incredibly incorrect thing has a bunch of upvotes.

1. I think anyone with half a brain realizes Singapore is authoritarian
2. The Hans have been in authoritarian cintrol for hundreds of years-they're used to it
3. Who TF is ok with Vietnam being Communist (besides liberals)? Unfortnately, this is settled due to detente policy and feckless leftists who didn't want us to win, by any means necessary

A benevolent dictatorship has always been recognized as the most effective and efficient form of government. The problem is that it is entirely dependent upon the competency and benevolence of the ruler. As soon as a bad dictator gets in power, there are no safeguards to prevent that ruler from destroying the economy and/or repressing the people. This results in states which boom and bust.

The guard rails of a constitutional democratic republic tend to restrict action, but also are less prone to bad despotic rulers because of the numerous checks on their power and means of removing leaders from positions of authority. As a result, these governments tend to be more stable and consistent over time.

Singapore was fortunate to have one of the most competent and benevolent dictators in world history as its leader post independence, and subsequent leadership has followed his vision.

I'm not saying people are okay with Vietnam being communist. just pointing out the fact that the US government and China hawks pretend to be fervent anti-communists.

when in fact they are very friendly with the Vietnam communist party. Even Republicans who are always going on about the Chinese communist party being an oppressive regime somehow tolerate the Vietnam version because of geopolitics.

when in reality Vietnam will never allow the Chinese commies to fall because deep down they know they will be next.
