Yeah, I forgot that, thanks

You missed the ETA killing Spanish Prime Minister Luis Carrero Blanco in '73. I don't think we've had anything similar happening in recent memory of a high profile politician actually in office.
Arguably, the events of 1968 set in motion the basis for modern surveillance states, regardless of economic orientation.

You are incredibly naïve if you actually believe the planet is more violent now. There is basically no leftist movements with any real teeth any longer. There are very few nationalist movements left in Europe which use political violence. The mostly stochastic violence of the 2010's has given way to state on state violence. This is just nonsense. You need to log off and take a walk or something.

This planet has been filled with violence and death since the fall of mankind. The only solution to sin is the restraining and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
We should all be repenting of our sins against God, embracing His Son Jesus the Christ by faith, and seeking to live lives pleasing to God. We should be seeking reform in society, first in the Church, and then more broadly, including political and social reform, based on a biblical worldview.

I give you an upvote for the overall post, but I have a tad bit of an issue with this statement:
[quote]Gun crime will always be high here given gun rights.../quote]
Crimes that are committed with guns would have been the same crimes committed with any other weapon available if guns were illegal. The term "gun crime" is disingenuous to say the least. (This is not to say that you're intentionally using the term to advocate for more firearm restrictions. It's become such a common term that no one really thinks about what it means.)
Apart from that, you're pretty much on target regarding the unfettered access to media making the occurrences of violent acts seem much more prevalent than previous generations. Media thrives on "rage bait" stories.

Late 60s and up to 1975 was really turbulent . Some will say the political divisions of today are bad but comparatively even in the US 1971 makes today look downright peaceful. Crime rates were really bad. Black Panthers, Weathermen, SLA, etc. You think NYC is ungovernable today? From 1965 - 1980 it really was with 2000 murders a year.
Today, we mostly bitch online. Leaving aside the Trump assassination attempts and Charlie Kirk's assassination. You don't see the same kind of violence of 55-60 years ago. But it is inching up in terms of the political sort. But in terms of non political related, we are at a very low point in comparison and in real #s across the nation

Brah. I get accused of being a "doomer" and I will still openly admit that things could be MUCH worse.
They are going to be much worse, but that's another topic for another thread.
This violence you speak of, is just another symptom of the human condition. That you're seeing and hearing more about it, is because of social media, and an MSM Narrative Control Apparatus that want you broken by relentless stories of hopelessness. In honesty, this is one of the more "peaceful" eras of modern human history, though the narrative implies the opposite.

I'm not really sure what's causing all this violence, or why it's happening now, although I do think there are some possible factors.
Rejection of Christ. That's a pretty big factor.

What led to the larger rejection of Christ from the mid-70s to the mid-90s?

I'm sure 20 years is a good sample size to accurately compare violence on the planet.

1966-1968 were very violent, but this era is close.
And what it the common denominator?
...liberals

Dude,
As recently at the 1970s, there were hundreds of political bombings in the US annually. It’s the most peaceful time on the planet ever. What’s different now is there is exponentially more media coverage 24/7/365. It used to be you’d read a story in the newspaper and see a 5 minute report on the news that evening. Now you’re constantly barraged by it so it seems worse.

Yeah, what prompted me to start this thread, more than anything, was the random violence that we are seeing. You can't go a single day now without hearing about a woman being killed on a train, or another woman being drenched with acid, etc. Etc.
Maybe I'm the only one seeing all of this random violence, but that's what Im seeing.

Not talking about war. But All these political riots and murders reminds me of late 60s early 70s.
Interesting that Israeli wars and leftwing violence go hand in hand then and now.
