That ball was moving left to right from a lefty pitcher. Where the catcher caught it was not where it crossed the strike zone. I have no problem with this call. The batter didn’t disagree with it.

Angel Hernandez has been getting shite for years because of how bad an ump he is yet MLB had been unable to fire him.
IIRC, they got it into the court record that he wasn’t getting postseason gigs because he was so horrible at his job when he sued claiming racism.
Point being that an affirmative action female hiring is still going to get that same kind of scrutiny until she shows she is above average or at least will be honest when she fricks up like the ump who cost the guy a perfect game with a blown call.

What is really stupid is you have a computer that shows if it is a ball or not and they don't use it.

No dude - she’s a woman. On this board, we make fun of women because none of us have one.

That's why the placement of those circles are dumb. They are where the ball's caught and not where it passed through the strike zone.
Not at all what the circle on the screen represents. You clearly have zero understanding of how broadcasts use Hawk-Eye systems in ballparks to display balls/strikes

Nah It's 89%
No. Umpire scorecards the lowest accuracy in the entire league is 90.99%. And that’s rob drake with 3 games called. If you filter to even 5 games, it’s over 92%.

i mean tbh, men's side had Angel Hernandez and Jim Joyce for decades, i don't think this is a good demo

That isn't significant.
That isn't history.
That is a bunch of liberal DEI, feminist propaganda bullshite.
frick MLB, NFL, NBA for pandering to this woke shite.

Close enough I've seen worse calls in the SEC. It's been time to let the lazers do the work male umps can be equally as terrible

Throw on CB Bucknor to the list.

Maybe a perfect demonstration, but, not as impactful a demonstration as that air show over the Potomac.

With some of the umps the MLB has these days they should be trying any and everything back there. Hell, let's get a chimpanzee suited up and see what it can do.
Once the video AI system is ready the umpire should only be back there for plays at the plate.

It wasn't that far off,

People would boo and heckle a male ump for that call. I’m fine with putting women in these positions if they deserve it but hold them to the same standards. She had it in her mind to call a strike on first pitch no matter what

If she is calling that, I live there all day... all day...
Did she go from softball to baseball or has she called some minor league games?

She made the correct call on 93% of pitches tonight which is normal for a debut. I think league wide season average is like 95%. This was a ball. But she did fine. Better than Angel Hernandez and the union kept him around for years after it was clear he was awful
She was at 91% and league average is around 94%. Not nearly as bad as this overreaction thread, but not good either.

Pitcher missed his spot by about four inches Inside. Ball One.
If he can adjust just about four inches towards the plate, that will be almost unhittable.

The strike is where the ball travels through the strike zone in relation to the batter.
Not where the catcher catches the ball.
Freeze the video at the 9 second mark. The ball hits that outer edge of the square.
FWIW, I thought it was ridicoulous that this was some kind of milestone.

are you fricking serious dude? at the 9 second mark the ball is probably still ten feet in front of the plate
