I don't believe you.

Old people do not use the term 'whippersnappers.' Young people pretending to be old people use it.

You say I ain't old? I remember when maybe one house in a ward had a TV which got one station and we had to hang out a window and turn the antennae pole to adjust the signal.

TV went off with the National Anthem either right after news or no later than midnight and test patterns popped up on the screen.

I remember a milk man delivering milk to houses of people who could afford it; doctors making house calls.

I can't remember when whippersnapper wasn's used.

Eat me you young punk. I am no Sonic fan but I'll meat your arse at a Tastee Freeze if you can find one.

That being said, I’ve never quite understood why Republicans have this general desire to kill human beings as a form of retributive justice. I think it’s stinks that R’s are “pro” death penalty.

I guess if someone kills another person in a premeditated manner death seems appropriate for the killer. My caveat is there has to be undeniable evidence before the death penalty is levied.

I'm conservative, but I'm against the death penalty. I think convicted murderers should be sentenced to hard labor, making sand out of boulders 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Bread and water to eat.

A fate worse than death.

Pot - don't think as many conservatives or Republicans are against pot as is commonly beieved. I think most Americans just think it's foolish at this point.

it's a stigma that doesn't hold his true today because of younger conservatives. In my lifetime there have been plenty of old Republicans that call it the devil's lettuce.

quote:

DNC platform and in accordance with any Dem talking point. It doesn't matter how idiotic they appear. They will dig in and fight till the bitter end. Republicans always put forth better and more logical arguments and never have the guts to follow through with the execution. It's disgusting.

You know when you speak in such absolute it makes you look kind of like a fool. And it's a bit ironic that you're speaking in such absolutes and are accusing Democrats of digging their heels in no matter how bad the argument. You really need some self-awareness there buddy.

quote:

Defense spending - so many bullshite arguments for why we need to spend so much on Defense and Republicans are 100% phony in their support for servicemembers.

Yes!

quote:

We need robust spending and we need a lot of people in uniform - so we have the capability of steady state security operations around the globe, the ability to deploy quickly, and the ability to enter a fight at a high level of combat capability instantaneously.

Wait....what?...no.

quote:

This is not good stewardship of tax dollars, does not prioritize the mission of the DoD, and ends up putting more servicemembers in the ground than ought to ever happen when combat takes place.

I mean the problem is that whole Warhawk conservative Readiness. We don't need to have fought in any War since World War II.

quote:

Civil liberties - Republicans routinely do the safety for liberty tradeoff.

I'm glad you're finally seeing this. During the GW presidency almost every conservative that I knew or met was saying "well if you arent a terrorist you shouldnt be worried." Some of the dumbest most emotionally unstable crap ive ever heard.

You are the OP, who asked people their opinions. It seems odd that you then attacked a poster (rather viciously) for providing you with the very opinion that you requested.

I am a libertarian ... but definitely NOT a Libertarian (LPA). The LPA is dogmatic to the point of insanity, when pragmatic application of libertarian principles would be an “easy sell” to most of the American Center. As such, while I suppose that I am on the Libertarian “team,” I actually have a problem with the dogmatic application of MOST libertarian principles.

But as to an entire, broad policy? I think that most libertarians are far too isolationist/non-interventionist. I am in the small libertarian minority that favors a more ... robust .. foreign policy.

“Gay marriage” is an oxymoron.

Marriage was originally an institution of religion. Religion defined marriage. Religion does not recognize, nor condone, homosexual marriage.

That's my problem, conservative or not, with gay marriage. I believe gays should be allowed a civil union, because they should be able to commit a recognized pact to their partner and be as happy and/or miserable as every other married couple.

But gay marriage in and of itself is an attack on core religions because as a Christian I am of the belief that GOD does not recognize nor sanction a marriage of two men or women. As long as the LGBT wants to recognize "gay marriage" and it's ceremonies as "sanctioned by GOD", then I will always take issue with it.
I disagree with my fellow “marriage equality” folks to some extent on this issue. SoCons have an odd, fetishistic fixation on the word “marriage,” so let them have the word ... and purge the word “marriage” from the law, in favor of the term “civil union.” Religions can HAVE the term “marriage,” so long as legal rights are determined by “civil union” to the COMPLETE exclusion of religious “marriage.”

Yes, this would be time-consuming, expensive and inefficient, but I am just so VERY tired of this ridiculous, never-ending battle over meaningless semantics.

So one liberal has looked at this thread and listed some crazy left wing stances that are pretty normal for Democrats to defend lately and said " I disagree with that?"

Disgusting
It becomes increasingly-clear that you were not terribly interested in hearing the opinions of other posters, so much as in attacking those who express opinions at odds with your own.

Hard labor isn't that bad of a fate. Giving a human a task they can focus on like that is actually a pretty good way for them to turn off their mind and find an illusion of purpose

I don't know, man. Perpetual physical exhaustion has to lead to mental exhaustion; day in, day out for the rest of your life.

I have voted for Republicans and I’ve voted for Democrats. It depends upon the candidate and the circumstances and issues surrounding the election.

We are divided into tribes or teams, and it’s not really healthy for our republic.

I guess if we want to neatly divide along right/left I am on the right. I really hate the propensity for war and the waning but still alive "social" issues.

The unimportant shite dealing with social issues on both sides drives me nuts.
