the city resorted to furloughing employees after the city received only about $50 million from the first coronavirus stimulus, known as the CARES Act. That's $40 million shy of what the pandemic has cost the city.

quote:

Continuing fears about the economic fallout from the pandemic prompted the city to cut its budget by $100 million this year, leaving its general fund at $633.5 million. That included continuing furloughs for workers making more than $35,000 a year — which saved the city $23 million — and cutting departments across the city by 8% to 40%.

Montaño said he and other city officials are still crunching the numbers and awaiting guidance from the U.S. Treasury Department to confirm the amount the city can expect to receive and what guidelines are in place on how the money can be used.

Programs and studies

All joking aside, majority of that money should go into a program similar to the PPP for those businesses that were shutdown, or are barely making it through these shutdowns. Basically, an incentive program to reopen/stay open.

By the time skimming and DBE consultants are paid out I’m sure a couple million will actually get used appropriately

I believe this money is strictly for city budget. Not to disperse to private companies

Is this true?
Not doubting it.
Just wondered where you got the figure.

I don't do work in the city, but if there was not a reduction in the service, or quality of service, does the city really need to bring these people back?

Latoya said FLAT OUT that she was not opening up NOLA until she got her federal funds.

She's got them so now this will go away soon enough.

And she and several members of her administration will grift the funds and eventually be in jail, a tradition in NOLA.

You give your kids an allowance so they can buy their own school supplies?

You totally missed the point. It's a horrible idea to just give the city of New Orleans a boat load of cash for it to do what it pleases with.

Ron DeSantis Says Florida Penalized by Biden's Stimulus Package:

quote:
"What this bill does is it says if you locked down, if you destroyed your state, if you destroyed your economy, and you failed to stop COVID as well, you're going to get a windfall," DeSantis told host Jeanine Pirro.

"Some of these lockdown states are getting an extra billion, $2 billion, $3 billion," DeSantis added. "So, it's effectively a transfer of money from states like Florida and Georgia to states like New York, Illinois and California."

DeSantis continued: "It stinks to high heaven."
