Well let’s keep doing what all the other administrations have done because that got us so far. At least Trump is fighting back instead of enabling Iran and China. This isn’t going to be an easy fix no matter how you look at it. There will be pain. The question is, how much.

Iran or the US?
I disagree that China has escalation dominance. They need us significantly more than we need them. We are their largest importer of Chinese goods. We are their largest customer.
Mexico and Canada are our top 2 exporters of goods to the US. China is a distant third and fighting off Germany to hold that spot.

The entire dustup with Canada is because they are importing Chinese steel, doing slight manufacturing, and trying to pass it off as Canadian steel to circumvent the existing tariffs on China.

I’m sure cranking up the economic pressure to the maximum level will crush the economy of Iran. I’m sure that it will cause all sorts of pain and misery inside Iran. That doesn’t mean that it will have the desired effect though and change the situation we find ourselves in the Middle East. At the end of the day the radicals in the IRGC, political leadership, and religious leadership will all eat before anyone else does. They will drink before anyone else does. They will still have all the guns and ammo when nobody else does. I just do not see this changing the situation very much other than putting the civilian population through hell.
I don’t disagree that turning up the volume to the maximum on the economic pressure is a bad strategy it’s just backwards. We should have been doing this before we started dropping bombs. Maybe then we could have avoided this conflict altogether. I very very seriously doubt it but at least we would have tried everything before starting this conflict. Then maybe there would be more support from the public.

US sanctions on Russia weakened our economic standing globally and further strengthened China. Sanction are counter productive when nations can get everything they need elsewhere.
