These economic “d-day” sanctions on Iran will fail.

China purchases 80% or Iranian crude. We cannot take any meaningful economic actions against China because it has absolute escalation dominance over the US in trade. Trump has tried to enforce protectionist trade policies against China before and had to fold almost immediately due to the catastrophic economic consequences it would have had on our own economy. Russia is another major trade partner of Iran and it is already under maximum economic sanctions and we are currently supporting a Ukrainian bombing campaign against them. The idea we could impose even greater economic sanctions on Russia is laughable.

So, the economic “d-day” campaign against Iran will have no meaningful impact, which will cause the USA sanctions regime to lose credibility. Couple that with sticky inflation, rising borrowing costs, the Treasury’s intervention in the bond market, and out of control deficits, and you have the most serious threat to American economic primacy in a generation with no clear resolution in sight.

Trump will have presided over the United States losing military credibility, and economic credibility, in about a nine month timespan. Truly impressive level of retardation.
