There's a skills gap coming that will reshape the economy

I am noticing it with my high school daughter and starting to notice it with my college students.
There is no middle. There are about 10-20% (maybe generous) of high achievers that will be self-sufficient in life and the rest are going to be an issue. You are seeing it in the service industry jobs now and its about to spread.
The "C" student is what used to be the failing student. What is passing for the "A" student used to be the B/C student. The high achievers are almost acing everything - 4.4 GPAs and 102 averages.

Saw something today that said over 50% of recent College grads are employed in jobs that only require a high school education.

Saw that today as well.
I gave a quiz today. I don't teach math, but one of the questions had a math angle to it to get to the answer. When I say math angle - I mean math that everyone past 3rd grade should be able to do in their heads.
1 for 15. And I'd make a sizable wager the 1 was by accident.

Abolish public education.
I'm starting to get there. There's a bill in the Mississippi house to give true school choice. The business community and GOP is in support, I think its going to pass, although the Senate may dial it down a bit.
My kids go to a great school in a high achieving district. The stories they tell are horrifying. I cannot imagine a low achieving school in 2024.

Yoke 'em to plow...
- lower emissions
- sustainability
- purely organic
Make them shite on the hoof while at it. Even more green fertilizer.

You’re dealing with a growing population with an IQ average of 85 or lower. There is a scientific reason why every poor country is actually poor, and it isn’t oppression. Follow the science.

Making broad assumptions based on high schoolers? That's dumb.

I see it now everywhere. Even in jobs that don’t require education. There are only a handful of younger generation that are go getters. Others sit and mope all day or play on their phone. Only in it for a paycheck. Don’t care if they make something of themselves or not.

and 20 years of teaching at the college level.
Colleagues are noticing things as well. Some are blaming "tech as a crutch" but there's something different.

Keep’em dumb and dependent.
It use to be just the liberal way but now it’s all of establishment politics.
They doing want you smart enough to question their decisions for your life.

They are the future.
It may be bleak.

We’re seeing the same. We even have assignments in classes where they have to do something like make a LinkedIn account; it’s supposed to be a free 100% on a homework to incentivize them to think about their future, but like 30% of students just flat out won’t do it. Not because of any aversion to LinkedIn or tech or anything like that mind you, but solely because they think it’s too much work. These are college students, and spending 60 minutes to prepare themselves to enter the job market is too much work for them. That’s where we are now. It’s horrifying.
Colleges are getting a lot of hate, and most of it is deserved. But we have to know that there’s a societal problem starting way younger… fixing college isn’t going to be possible until we address that root issue. Otherwise 80% of colleges will have to become functional babysitting clubs primarily teaching the basics of giving a frick.

The people who know how to do stuff--electricians, welders, plumbers, etc.--will have a big leg up.

They’re literally functional retards.

I thought so too, but rural communities are shifting back.
For instance...there are no FFA chapters in any Baton Rouge private schools, but membership is growing in the surrounding areas.

Friend’s kid is 12. 7th grade. Doesn’t know her multiplication tables and definitely not long division. Doesn’t know how many branches are in the government. Also doesn’t care.
Not a broad assumption. This is in Tennessee. Not Louisiana.

It's a little more complicated than that. We were fortunate enough to have been born on the most favorable piece of geography (by far) on the entire planet. It's why we've had such shitty government and are STILL the world's wealthiest nation and only superpower.
