It's intentional. Stupid people are easier to control and manipulate than smart people. Smart people ask questions. Stupid people do as they are told. Public schools today are designed to mass produce stupid people whose only purpose in life is to do the manual and menional jobs the elites do not want to do. Meanwhile the elites send their kids to the highest quality (and most expensive and hardest to get into) private schools to learn how to control and manipulate the stupid people.

I was in a Popeye’s the other day. The manager told one of the workers to do some task in 30 minutes. She then said “you know what time it will be in 30 minutes right” , while they were both looking at a clock.

The 19ish year old had no idea. She went to the clock and counted out “5,10,15….”. This dude had no idea how to look at a clock and figure out what time it would be in 30 minutes.

How do you get to be 19 and not know that?

Public schools are now about two (2) things - (1) standardized test scores and (2) indoctrination.

Everyone that trumpets their child’s district as the “best” don’t always get that there is nothing that is best in many cases. Do they even know what their kids do at school all day. A lot of it has nothing to do with education and when they receive some education it is more so focused on things that support test preparation and ultimately passing the standardized test.

If a person obtains a trade accredited skill, has some thinking skills and ultimately transitions to their own business, they can do quite well as the number of folks that can or are willing to “do” things like simple repairs and installations has declined.

We are no longer a nation of doers and those that can do will profit if they are savvy.

School is completely uninteresting and disconnected from so many of these kids' lives. They can't see any value in it and there is no investment by teachers or administrators in developing young minds. It's a shitty factory that everyone hates.

I saw this happening 10 years ago and it has excelerated at an exponential pace. The lack of skills at major EPC's and other tech firms is eye opening to say the least.
Through retirement and others leaving out of frustration due to lack of managerial support we are in a dire situation.
No easy answers to fix this.

Credentialism has left us with a nation of people who can do one thing. Thats it. It gives people status, not skills.

Its an easy way to put promote very average people within a system, but its not fit for human growth. It pigeonholes people and stops actual skill development.

The very structure of public schooling is so unnatural and built for a completely different era of people and social conditions. We are so far removed from the original social structures that were in place and I encourage any parent to seek out alternatives, especially parents of young boys as its becoming increasingly obvious the current education system is centered on women and has zero concern for boys.

Don't worry. As soon as they get tired of eating Rama noodles and hot dogs they'll discover the fun of a regular job.

So how do you explain the vast increase in things like AP classes over time, if nobody is getting educated today?

Those people can succeed anywhere. The trade skill portion actually limits their potential success (trade output is lower margin than other products that person could sell).

Uh, because the standards for "AP" courses have been lowered as the testing standards have been lowered?

Even the SAT removed a more "natural talent" measured component of the test in favor of a more test prep oriented type test.

What is passing for the "A" student used to be the B/C student. The high achievers are almost acing everything - 4.4 GPAs and 102 averages.

I see this with my 13 year olds age group. The standardized testing is what separates the A students. All A’s no longer equates to top of the class.

With that said, the majority of that age group and younger are hard right leaning. I also read an article last week which confirms this. The pendulum will swing back, but it’s going to take a while.

Proving my point about CTs being blown up

Just add another layer

The SAT has always been test prep oriented. The ACT has always relied on more thinking and analysis.

Are you referring to the recently-added stupid essay portion that was a new addition and added little to the test?

LOL.

AP classes are actually the biggest reason IMO that college students are graduating from college without being able to tell you things like what the Cold War was.

They don't learn anything in AP classes in high school and the AP classes exempt them from having to take the classes in college. So they never learn anything.

No, like the removal of the analogies section in favor of more memorization based sections that can be gamed with private test tutors.

Disagree if you are basing that on high school. Some high schoolers just are not motivated at that point in their lives.

My son and his friends are 30/31

He had a 3.4 in HS (26 ACT, ADHD), 2.9 at GA Tech and makes $150k already.

A buddy of his did less well in HS, went to college on a baseball scholarship, got a nursing degree, and is now a Nurse Anethisis. I do his taxes, and his W2 was $235k.

Another WAS motivated in HS through college, and he will begin his life as a surgeon at $500k this summer.

All public school educated, not woke, conservative, etc.

The analogies are all memorization. Very little thinking involved if you have the bank of words memorized.

And if you don't have them memorized, you're a a disadvantage and have to guess. The verbal section of the SAT has always been a joke (in terms of projecting thinking/intelligence) for this reason.
