I know almost every decent home has a backup generator and cistern.
Solar and Storage has been popular there for a long time. I have 25,000 off grid capable systems there i manage. And i know some guys who've installed over 50k powerwalls. No one trusts the utility there even though it's run by a US company now.

Why does this board care about Puerto Rico all of a sudden?

It seems to be doing wonders for their cause.

Having a backup generator even in places with a reliable power grid is a good idea. Having one in the Caribbean where storms blow up out of nowhere and the grid stucks is essential. Also having a cistern is a good idea because water is expensive AF in that part of the world.

Because Puerto Rico is poorly run.

Simplistic. Expected.

Maybe because bad bunny brought attention to it? Even in his stage props there was an EBT sign.

In no way is that “dropping the mic”.
If true, it’s an interesting fact that doesn’t mean much, there’s always been a lot of of back and forth between the continent and the territory… Puerto Ricans are citizens. PR is not a separate country…

Same thing happened during Hurricane Maria. Lots of people showed their arse. Just like any other day that ends in y here.

I mean they (we) definitely did for many years, but luckily it was like 100 years ago at least.
And I havent heard any Puerto Ricans talk about how bad it is here, they are literally american. All ive heard is a bunch of fox news hosts talk about how all the Puerto Ricans hate it here.

The Super Bowl Halftime show has fractured the minds of many.

Yeah, lots on this board are really having difficulty with the NFL booking a successful American citizen from Puerto Rico for their halftime show.

Moving to the US costs Puerto Ricans because they then have to start paying income tax. What a terrible argument.

This. Wealthy Americans move to PR to run from taxes.

I don't know. I enjoyed the one week I spent in San Juan. The driving was crazy fun though.
Posted on 2/10/26 at 2:44 pm to Barkbowwow
Puerto Rican drivers are extremely polite and crazy at the same time.

Probably the same reason people flee Louisiana as quickly as possible
