quote:

Residents in the Dutch city of Utrecht have long understood that vibrant cities and lots of cars don’t really mix; Utrecht first experimented with temporarily closing streets in its city center to vehicles in 1965.

Prior to the formation of the WEF

quote:

Today, a pedestrianized city center is the norm, and Utrecht, along with most of the Netherlands, is known for being bicycle-friendly. Still, vehicles tend to dictate the design of most public space there, as with most cities in the world. The architects of a newly proposed neighborhood called Merwede want to change that, though, by giving residents everything they need within walking distance.

Merwede will be home to 12,000 people on a nearly 60-acre site in southwest Utrecht, with a focus on pedestrians and cyclists, and with public transportation that connects to all parts of the Netherlands. A fleet of shared cars and bicycles will be available to everyone living there. Instead of one (or multiple) cars per household, filling the streets with congestion and parking spaces, Merwede will have one car for every three households.

quote:

More than a third of Utrecht’s 1.3 million people already bike to the city center daily,

It appears that the "one in three" language is because there is a parking garage away from the city center that only has enough space for 1 car per resident. I don't see anything about this "shared" car program other than the video in OP.

But it’s true because the same people have been ripping out roads, limiting vehicle use in city “centres” due to carbon footprints, eliminating parking and not allowing the use or sale of ICE engines in some areas.

Or because these cities were created prior to cars and were created for a population who didn't use them, creating a different culture than in America where we have infinite space in most places.

In effect they’re banning private vehicles without formally banning private vehicles,

Update: this is not true.

It's also voluntary. I doubt people moving to this district are the types to be pro-car.

But they want to depopulate the surrounding areas over time a

Utrecht is a major city in Ned already

It’s just a stepping stone towards what they’ve already told us they want: the elimination of private transportation.

They don’t even want us buying new clothes at will.

That’s not my opinion: it’s in their books.

You don’t have to convince me. There is a big difference between forcing people to live that way and folks just choosing to.

It likely will not work... but it is far more likely to work in a completely homogenous society

It's one neighborhood. If they find people that want to live there it works. If they don't then it doesn't work.

How does that work when co-owners Knut & Ingrid take the car on a week-long drive around Europe? frick the other two households?

Who fills it up, who does maintenance?

You’re so mad. I find it funny too how the “dumbest” posters were the ones who actually did two minutes of research on this neighborhood instead of trusting a random X rage bait post.

I’m still laughing at “immoral” and “disgusting”.

How would those same things work if Bard co-owned a car with someone else?

Bard has enough sense not to attempt to share ownership of vehicles with other families.

Globalist's utopian dream. It could work there though, they are using trains, feet and bikes to get around.

It just be touted as a successful model like when all the socialist all love to cite the Nordic countries for their dreams.

Of course, much like their homogenous socialism, this would never work here.

Ok. I would not imagine that it’s very common in the Netherlands either.

Are you happy to be immoral and disgusting. You probably go to sleep at night with your queer boyfriends poop on your penis. Reason why you are immoral and disgusting.
