Uhh. I have a question. All this talk about Superchargers, etc. Uhh. I am old and naive. But, uhh, how much does it cost to plug in and get charged? No one ever talks about the charge to get charged up.
its cheaper to charge an EV. although how much cheaper varies based on local electricity fees, legislative benefits, and gas price fluctuations.

Thanks for simplifying that.
I see there is a lot of room for more federal and local taxation in charging fees. It never ends.

no prob. some EVs have arrangements for free charging, some even are grandfathered in for free charges I believe.
but yea never underestimate the governments means and will to levy a tax.

enjoy wasting all that time pumping gas that could be saved charging at places you are already going to be. youll probably make 20 trips to the pump in every day driving for every 15 minute stop at a supercharger only needed while on the road trips outside the range.
IThe last thing I want is to devote even one second to planing a trip based on the location of charging stations. I cannot understand anyone giving up the freedom of a gas powered vehicle to be tied to a extension cord. Thee is currently no charger that will charge a EV faster than I can gas up my truck, I have no need to spend 20 -30 minutes at gas stops. EVs are a politically driven solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

This admin is forcing EVs on the public, way too fast.
It doesn't matter, their batteries are shite, especially in cold areas, and they are an ecological nightmare just like the huge wind turbines. Neither of those are good for the environment.

That statement is GLORIOUS!

good news is you dont have to. theres plenty along every major route well within the range of the vehicle that your vehicle will account for on your trip. you would have to be actively trying to avoid charging locations, this is a problem that does not exist.

I have no need to spend 10 minutes every week filling up at a gas station if I can charge at home and places I will be anyway. ill take 30 minutes added on to the rare >250+ range trips I make to routinely save time. if you make these trips more than 8 times a year then you have a point, but the amount of people who do this is a very small percent of personal vehicle owners.

I’m looking forward to the day cities start having brown outs because they release they can’t meet the electrical demand.

OK, what happens if you miss a charging station and go empty? You can't call AAA and have them bring some gas...
You have to be towed to the next station???
You are at the mercy of a system that is long away from being compatible.
Face it, there are major issues when driving EVs....and there are zero issues when driving ICE!

and there are superchargers everywhere. its a really outdated talking point against EVs that you cant use them outside big cities
I’m in a city of 500k+ there is one supercharger location,, I frequent a popular beach area, where the closest supercharger station is a hour round trip away on a good day. Rationalize it however you want, but EVs are nowhere close to the having freedom offered by the range and ease of fueling offered by fossil fuels, and likely never will be.

is that beach you frequent over 150 miles from your home? if not, you dont need that supercharger. as long as your are smart enough to charge your car at night, while you work, or go shopping for shite to bring to the beach it will get you there and back easily. If so, you are in the vast minority of personal vehicle users and the ev might not be for you. but im not really trying to argue 5% of personal vehicle users, just the fact that broadly EVs are viable and are becoming more and more viable.

Looks like we have a salesman attached. Perhaps we can get a TD discount?

I already acknowledged it was at a premium price. I was rebutting someone who claimed it would take 4 EVs to do the work of a gas car, the point being there are EVs currently on the market with better specs and capability. This is a fact regardless of how you feel about EVs.
The infrastructure is expanding rapidly, the tech and development is as well. EVs are becoming more and more reasonable. I don't care about woke green shite, EVs are broadly going to be superior within 10 years.
EV's may win out. They have very few moving parts and efficiency is high. However, I don't think they will move beyond their practical niches until they are powered primarily by fuel cells which can be fueled up with a fuel that can be stockpiled.
I don't see new power plants going up all over the place. What's a Californian to do when their Tesla can't charge due to a black out or brown out?

Much like ICE vehicles, EVs arent moron proof.
what happens if you accidentally put diesel in your gas tank since in your scenario you are dumb enough to miss stops your vehicle is actively warning and guiding you to? you would have to be towed in for repairs???
youd be pretty dumb considering your vehicle will be warning you about this and guiding you to the station. also there are enough stations around that on most major roadways you would probably find another before it ran to 0. but you are correct, if you are too dumb to let your car tell you when it needs to charge then you might have problems. shite some EVs can literally autopilot you to the charging station
also there is such a thing as a mobile EV charger. so EVs will soon have solid access to the equivalent of AAA bringing you gas.

oh yea, too old to waste exactly 0 time charging while you are at your home sleeping at night?
and it takes like 20 minutes at a supercharger.
it might be nap time for you
1. A two car couple who live in apartment complexes. Can you say,“non-existent charging infrastructure"?
1a. So, say that an apartment complex with 1000 apartments decides to add chargers. It would likely be 1 per apartment. Still a problem with charging both cars.
1b. Guess who is going to be paying higher rental costs to pay for this infrastructure? Yep. The renters.
2. Rental cars. You are going to have rental car companies with inventory of rental cars being returned with hardly any charge left and at busy airports they need to receive cars and turn them around within an hour or so. Now, they may be looking at telling customers, "sorry, no cars are ready" while they wait 8-10 hours for a full charge.
2a. Are you expecting hotels will fill their car lots with chargers for overnight travelers?
3.Homeowners - I have three daily drivers. What kind of power draw from the pedestal will support three cars being charged overnight?
4. Kids at college living in dorms or Greek houses. What are you going to do about all that?
There's a myriad of problems not even touched on here. You're just typical of progressives who believe in build it and solve problems with it later.

Thats from Tesla's own Find a charger website. There are VAST areas of the country that don't have charging infrastructure. Like I said, if your home charging and driving local that's one thing, if your out for a weekend road trip with your better half, you have to tailor your trip to allow you to be close to a charger, if you don't your screwed.
It's funny, but there are several towed range extender/generators on the market.

And what if they decide to go spend the week at the beach with the normal putting around town you tend to do with the family in tow.
That charger 75 miles back at home is not so convenient then.

EVs like a cybertruck that get a 500+ mile range... this wont really need fuel cell swaps and stockpiles. if I only need to make a charge at roadside if im traveling over 500 miles then its very practical for over 95% of personal vehicle users for over 95% of the vehicle usage.
I agree fuel cells for EVs will nullify most gas vs EV freedom of movement type arguments though. but if the main arguement like in this thread against an EV is its not as good for cross country travel thats a pretty niche arguement
