Nice share DJ! I have always believed taxation and cost of living are most impactful to birth rates.
I bet if you built a chart starting in 1940 through 2025… as taxes and cost of living increases… birth rates inversely plummet.

We weren't going to be able to produce enough food to feed ourselves, we were going to use up all of the world's oil supply, we were going to run out of fresh water just because of over population.

That’s fine with me, but understand that social security will collapse, and we will be unable to project military power around the globe. That might sound okay, but it means the collapse of the dollar and our stock market.
I was in an Eastern European country a couple of years ago. An attractive, well educated 32 year old woman threw herself at me (I was 61). She hardly knew me, and I’m not a particularly attractive man. She was that desperate to get out of the kind of country you are trying to create. Think about that.

The idea of generous social programs to support young mothers and encourage procreation sounds great to me at first, but then I think of all the types who will just roll out babies in order to stay on the dole. We’d be encouraging welfare queens.

but not only this
immigration both legal and illegal has played a huge roll in this indirectly. By suppressing wages through illegal immigration and the population growth causing inflation....it has caused the average family to have less disposable income than they are comfortable with. Not to mention the effects it has had on the housing market, schools, healthcare cost...just so many things it reaches.
immigration, especially illegal immigration, is the main issue. and as mentioned, there is nothing wrong with the country going back do below 300 million people. I would argue its healthier for the country overall.
but we must bring back manufacturing to not continue to force people into major metro areas. Something like 25% of the population now lives in 12 cities, if we are going to fix this we must fix immigration, deports millions and bring back industrial manufacturing to this country. including rare earth metal mining, refining and bringing the manufacturing of processing chips to this country.
