Dude was tripping over the new health deduction from his pay check for adding his ninth child probably.

Who called the cops and why?
The family called twice earlier in the same day for domestic disturbance. They say the third time they called was for an ambulance. I’m tired of mental illness being the scapegoat for thugs like this. This dude was just a POS human being. Punched a cop in 2013 and a few years later robs and assaults a woman by kicking down her door and putting a gun to her head. There are people who struggle with serious mental illness and it something to be taken seriously. But every time one of these thugs uses that excuse to justify their shitty behavior people stop taking it seriously m.

So I'm sure this has been discussed here but I was just passively listening to the radio earlier while driving and they gave a profile of the guy.
27 years old, 8 kids with one on the way, professional Uber driver and aspiring rapper
This is why he committed suicide by cop for the payout to support his 9 kids.

Clearly that is absurd but I don't think it would be a bad thing to have a mental health professional accompany police when they respond to calls, like this one, where the person has a mental issue (at least according to the mother saying he had a mental issue).
You can't take an innocent, unarmed, and untrained person into a situation like that. They will either be killed or become a hostage. I get that the motive is to help people but that will just put more people in harm's way. At some point, we need to accept that a mentally ill person willing to pull a knife and charge at armed officers is probably a danger to society. Many of us know what the outcome will be if we pull a lethal weapon on a cop and charge at them. He didn't know or didn't care. That is Darwinism.

Soon the Saints will run out of helmet space.

Psychiatrists make 150-200k per year and psychologists make half that. You'd also probably have to pay them much more than that for them to risk their lives dealing with dangerous mentally deranged people in the field. This is not even close to being a realistic solution. Can you imagine how expensive it would get to pay 1000s of them in the big cities where tons of crime happens and almost all of it involves mentally deranged individuals?

Well Joe said in a debate he wants to have a psychiatrist tag along on certain calls. How much would that cost the taxpayer?
There is nothing that a psychiatrist can do in a crisis situation when a person has a weapon and is irrational, intoxicated, off their meds, or all of the above.
To insinuate that a social worker could help us even more laughable.
(Disclaimer: This is an opinion from a psychiatrist with over 2 decades of experience in academics, inpatient, outpatient, teaching, and published research).

I would like to note all the people that were commenting and videoing the incident made no attempt to get out and diffuse the situation. They came in after the shooting but not while the man was wielding a knife stalking the police.. They can all stfu.

Back in my day, that guy's momma would have been beating him to death with the first thing she could put her hands on in the middle of the street...
All the bystanders would have been going "mhmmm, that boy gettin' his arse beat"...

As a mental health professional in a past career, frick that shite. Let the police do their job and get him subdued. Police don't need to be worried about protecting an unarmed civilian while trying to apprehend an armed suspect.
He can be sent for eval once he's been subdued and has been determined that his tirade is not: 1. a psychotic break; 2. a psychopathic spree; 3. drug induced; and 4. he's no longer a threat.

Are there levels of Uber drivers?
Like novice, intermediate, experienced, professional?
I had no idea you could ascend to such heights driving people around town. The coursework and lab time must have been grueling with 9 kids.
