If you are up 42-3 in the 3rd quarter, have you won even though there are another 15 minutes to play? The other side may still score some meaningless points, however, the game is essentially over. Your team and coach must stay for the fourth quarter, however, the stadium is empty because the fans know it’s over.

It is pretty clear

The admin has given up on regime change as of now. I hope they don't change their minds, because full ground invasion would be required for that (and it's not clear that we could even force regime change with that)

The Levin’s of the world are unfortunately advocating for full ground invasion. Lord willing, Trump will not entertain such lunacy.

Iran today still resembles Iran before the bomb started dropping. The only difference is a lot of of the military infrastructure has been flattened and equipment destroyed. So it will be in rebuild mode. If they get $20 billion, then the US is funding the rebuild.

The US resembles the US before the bombs started dropping also. Except for military equipment has been lost, and the stock piles diminished. The biggest change for the US is its diminished political standing. Loss of allies, loss of trust, China cozying up to our friends who are now doubting us.

I know you supported Obama but remember what Trump folks said about the pallets of cash back then?

Think Trump folks will sing the same tume of this next $20B comes to fruition.

We are hardly even capable of installing good leaders in our own country. I have zero trust that we could ever install good leaders anywhere else.

It’s actually terrifying.

AOC in Congress is bad enough. There’s a commie path for her to actually become President.

The last two were too old to be President.

He’ll, Biden didn’t know where he was half the time and the left said nothing.

We are fricked long term.

The president is OK with concluding this war without regime change.

What does that tell us?

The US unfreezes the assets to the tune of 20 billion, they can probably acquire some more uranium in the FUTURE.

It tells me that the president does not believe the voters are willing to pay the price to get full regime change. The president knows that politics is the art of the possible, and he will restrict his endeavors to that realm. And it tells me that the president would consider a peace deal, in which the Iranians are without their nuclear material, and without the resources to rebuild their military capability, pacify their people, and rebuild their nuclear capability. He could walk away knowing that he set Iran back about 15 years. He would probably like to have gotten regime change, but if it’s politically impossible he’ll take this.

More than fricked if you go into state and local levels....

That’s a fair assessment. You could even go to 30 years if you were being generous.

So we’re essentially we’re talking about delaying them, setting them back 15 to 30 years, and then paying them for it.

To me that would make me question whether it’s worth it to begin with if we are OK with this outcome.

Where have you seen this? Unfreezing their assets is not “paying them”. Is there another proposal to pay them from the US treasury? I haven’t been following that closely.

No, I haven’t heard of a proposal to pay them from the US treasury yet.

But I don’t see the Iranian bargaining position as currently decreasing.

We need to flatten them. As for the world stage, US has made friends in the ME from countries that Iran lashed out at. We may have lost utterly useless partnerships in NATO. Gained a new partner in India.

Just finish the job and it is a win. We have India, Venezuela, and a new presence in the ME in neighboring countries to Iran.

They will keep reinstalling leaders forever. This is useless at this point.
