Glad to hear Cities no longer need a disproportionate amount of taxpayer funding.
Great news.
Great news.

Whole cities…nah.
Portions, sure.
Some more so than others.
I wouldn’t consider your examples to be of the shithole variety. Using them as examples is quite disingenuous.
I also find it ironic that some very large cities are incredibly segregated…and largely vote Democrat.
Most of them are also up north.

Now is worse, it’s been legalized so they can ignore it and lie to you guys. What’s crazy is you buy it.

that’s obviously much more fair
talking about the people, and there are many, who act like the whole city is a literal war zone

The idea that New Orleans is worse now than 30 years ago is contrary to all evidence. The huge project are gone and crime— especially murder—is way, way down. By no means am I saying everything is great but facts Trump nostalgia.

Cities can be perfectly fine to live in if you don't have kids but if you have kids and you're sending your kid to one of those schools in that District you're a fricking idiot

I worked in Macon a few years ago. Definitely some sketchy areas. I don't remember downtown being that bad though

This is probably the nexus of the issue. Cities have been hollowed out of families because of the absolutely atrocious public education system in almost every single large city.

San Francisco used to be safe. When I first moved to the Bay area, I felt safe in most parts during the day. I really didn't feel unsafe even at night. I saw some homeless people, but not overwhelmed.
The last time I went was to see Hamilton back right before Covid.
There were homeless tents lining the streets. I saw people actively shooting up in front of me.
In my neighborhood about 50 miles south of SF, in Almaden Valley in San Jose. There was a homeless escarpment with heroin druggies by the trail by my house. A neighbor found a homeless person in her backyard. A young lady was raped near my house. The homes are nice (over 2 million)..
A week before we moved, arsonists set fire to the hill by our house.
It used to be safe and nice.

Is this based primarily on the 5 o'clock action news and people's social media algorithm figuring out that people respond to posts about crime?
What parts you living in baw? I live in Denham Springs and work in Battin Rudge and I can tell you firsthand it ain’t no narrative or algorithm out there stealing killing and dealing drugs.
Normally, I’d say “touch grass.“ But in this case, I think you should go touch concrete. In the hood.

A postcard from Haiti, maybe.

I work in downtown Houston and it’s a shithole. I walked out of my office yesterday and a homeless guy is firing up a meth pipe!

Just got back from SF and while there are some undesirables around it’s not the tent city fox would have you believe. One thing I did notice though is a lot of “closed permanently” businesses and corporations like CVS have even cheap basics under lock and key. They definitely messed up by allowing shoplifting and loitering to be accepted. Zero tolerance is the answer. Even Starbucks pickup cannot be left out. You go in and you ask for your order and someone gets it behind what looks like a bank teller window.
Extremely low trust society. Sad work by democrats.

You named 3 cities. Lots of downtowns all over the country went to shite or are just non existent.
30-40 years ago the downtown retail scene up and down canal was better than it is now in New Orleans. The city didn’t become a black majority until after 1980.

Coming from a guy who put Macon, Georgia as an example of urban revitalization. I mean sure has Macon improved? It hardly couldn’t improve and it’s a relatively small city so I am not sure people are referring to Macon when thinking of urban decay lol

How about Detroit?
Detroit in the areas you’d visit is unfathomably better than it was 30 years ago.
It’s legitimately improved to the point that it’s worth visiting for a baseball game and sightseeing as a tourist.

It's not so much the 9-5 crowd or the Sunday brunch crowd that have to deal with it.
We all know that nothing good happens after Midnight, but some people do have to travel the roads at that time and they shouldn't be shot while waiting for the train to pass just because of it.
