Violent crime rates are plummeting again. We may have the least violent year in recorded US history this year

The cultural differences of the urban and rural/pastoral areas isn't a new thing.

People did try that a few weeks ago.
I wish John Barron was around to spin it after he embarrassed himself on the issue last year (because the data was clearly manipulated when Biden was in office but is 100% legitimate now that Trump is on office).
There are some outliers too. Two of the biggest are geographically relevant for the board: Baton Rouge and Birmingham (IIRC, maybe Huntsville). Sadly Lake Charles is going in the wrong direction too

Is that from actual sidewalk experience or is it from the narrative the media projects.
Statistics are down because they just don't enforce the laws as they should. That helps the 'numbers' reported to the propaganda media.

NOLA 100% has more dangerous areas than 30 years ago.
That's patently false. Thirty years ago people were being murdered taking out their trash in the nicest areas of the city. The neighborhood I currently live in has had one shooting in the last decade. It was two dudes from Baltimore who tried to rob a CVS and got taken down by the NOPD in two minutes.

Yes. There will always be shitheads doing shithead things, but New Orleans is better crime wise than it was during the pandemic and certainly during the crack explosion of the late 80s to mid 90s.

Homicides declined in major U.S. cities — by more than 50% in some communities — during the first six months of the year, according to new data from an organization of law enforcement executives.
quote:
By the numbers: Reports from 68 law enforcement agencies showed a 19% drop in homicides in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to stats compiled by the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA).

Amid recent political rhetoric about rising crime and violence in American cities, a new analysis shows that violent crime has continued to decline this year.
Homicides and several other serious offenses, including gun assaults and carjackings, dropped during the first half of 2025 across 42 U.S. cities, continuing a downward trend that began in 2022, according to a new crime trends report released Thursday by the nonpartisan think tank Council on Criminal Justice.
Homicides fell 17% in the first half of 2025, compared with the same period in 2024, among the 30 cities that reported homicide data, according to the report.
During that same period, five cities saw increases in homicide — ranging from 6% in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to 39% in Little Rock, Arkansas.
While the report’s authors say the continued drop in violent crime — especially homicides — is encouraging, they note that much of the decline stems from a few major cities with historically high rates, such as Baltimore and St. Louis.
More than half of the cities studied have higher homicide rates than before the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, though, the analysis found that there were 14% fewer homicides during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2019.
2024 saw huge decreases
quote:
A new report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has found that crime in the United States decreased in 2024, continuing a trend of improved public safety after a spike in murders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report, released on Tuesday, estimates that 1,221,345 incidents of violent crime – including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault offences – took place in the US last year, down by 4.5 percent from 2023.
quote:
Intentional homicides decreased by 14.9 percent. But at a rate of 5 for every 100,000 people, the murder rate in the US remains significantly higher than throughout most of the world.
quote:
Nonetheless, the 2024 murder rate in the US represents a nine-year low and a major decline from a recent peak of 6.7 per 100,000 in 2020, the first year of the pandemic.

Little Rock is better than it was in the 80s when crack hit LR and Stl from Cali. Two of the first cites that got hit. But make no mistake, homocides are not lower.
You can go to downtow river walk and it looks all warm and fuzzy. Go to SW LR or University area and watch out.

What's the city nearest to you, and how does it compare and contrast from 30-40 years ago?
Memphis.
-Population is quickly declining. People with the means are fleeing to the burbs.
-Industry is dying
-Murder rate is over 3 times higher than 40 years ago
-Aggravated assault is approaching double the rate per 100,000 people from 40 years ago
-The area around its largest international attraction is much more dangerous than 40 years ago.
-And, most disheartening, the BBQ is worse than 40 years ago.

I think crime is down from 2020/21 peaks, maybe historically so. But two caveats:
- Felt crime always matters. When even minimal incidents bleed into places where people who live low-risk lifestyles reside/work, it makes a huge difference in perception and rightfully so. An ordered society should be such that crime, with wise choices, resources, etc. - can be easily avoided.
- General disrepair/petty lawlessness. Murders and rapes may or may not be down, but if homeless are abundant and people are regularly hassled, there is debris and defecation on streets, etc. - it begs the question of whether this is actually criminality that just isn't being punished (the answer is yes). DAs and law enforcement intentionally or by necessity aren't bothering with broken windows crime, and beyond that is a layer of disorder that may or may not reach criminal activity.
When people tout "historic low crime!" just ask them if the retail and restaurants are accordingly flooding back into the nearest major city downtown area (hint: no).

Thank you and well said. Sometimes I don’t have the patience for retarded liberals like SFP who always have to create bullshite narratives to support their America destroying platform.

Being in NY, it is easy to see the path of neighborhoods into success or decay depending on who moved in.
