Me when the backlash turns into calls for abolishing the IRS and TSA.

It will crush a lot of people when tax season comes around.
If you think you are going to get a refund it may take awhile if this last longer than 2 to 3 more weeks. It will take the IRS employees weeks if not months to catch up.
Everyone will still get their W-2s or 1099s and will have to have them filled out on time and pay on time because of your state taxes. People who get federal refunds will have to wait a little longer.
This will piss more than just liberals off.

Sounds like a good reason to get rid of the current federal income tax
With a Federal budget that only included the DOD and our three branches everyone will get much more back

A lot of speaking strongly about things not understood in here. Most of the federal employees deemed “essential” are forced to work without pay people. They cannot take days off or work secondary jobs without clearance. There is no option for leave and anyone that is allowed to miss work has to be proven for “critical circumstances”. The options are, file for state funded unemployment, of which has to be paid back once the shutdown is over. They can also call creditors and apply for payment for giveness programs. When the shutdown is lifted, Federal employees usually receive lump sum checks that are taxed beyond comprehension. All this while the people making the real money never loses a split second of his/her annual salary.

Something like 3/4 (or close to it) of the government is deemed essential and thus is chugging along.
And before you get angry, remember, this is border patrol we are talking about (don't people want that?).
Federal Prisons, maybe we should just declare them shut down, open the doors and tell the killers and rapists to have a good time and be sure to come back in a few days?
