These are my exact thoughts also. I think Trump basically decided to sacrifice himself for the good of the party and decided to go through 2 years of congressional investigations and possible impeachment to make it easier for Repbublicans in 2028.
Trump is selfless like that and always thinking about others and what's best for the party.

This is like when idiots on the left said it was always Saddam’s plan for America to invade and topple his regime so that he could wage a guerrilla war against us. What is a great plan? No. But it certainly wasn’t Saddam’s plan to lose power, see both sons killed, and then get hung. The Dems will almost certainly frick up and lose popularity, but Trump did not want to spend the last two years of his presidency as a lame duck fighting investigations
