We’re both community advocates

I wouldn’t know.
You’re unaware of critiques of the report?

I always had tremendous respect for Daniel Patrick Moynihan, even though I disagreed with many of his political views. At least he had an intellectual basis for them, and was willing to engage in reasonable dialogue and consider opposing viewpoints.

It outlines the logical consequences of chattel slavery and systemic discrimination but it ultimately pathologizes Black family structures by measuring them against white middle-class Northern European norms.

capitalizing black has to be exhausting.
but hey, virtues don't signal themselves.

Black marriage rates were similar to "White middle-class Northern European norms."
The two-parent household was not some alien White imposition on Black cultural expectations. It was the Black norm too, and one that Black communities themselves valued deeply.
LBJ and his WOP obliterated that.

Did Southern Europeans have different "norms" during this timeframe?
Regardless, it's hard to think of any good reason why broken families of any race, color, or creed should not be pathologized.

The divergence was the logical consequence of the abandonment of Reconstruction, Jim Crow, redlining, etc etc.

You’re implying that the effects of systemic discrimination are not residual.
ETA I don’t like how I phrased that. You’re implying that centuries of systemic oppression would not yield any residual effects.

What other correlations should we be making?
Just one, and you know what that one is, just as it has been for centuries. It has nothing to do with systemic anything in 2026. All races perform the same in a modern economy with similar IQs, especially ours.
The democrat mayors are an end result, just as is the crime statistics. That isn’t the root of the problem.

I'm not implying anything.
I am quoting stats from the period in which Moynihan was citing them.

This sentence is absolutely exhausting.

You are talking about someone that was on here just astounded that a felon that she was tutoring was arrested again and is probably still driving around in a mangled minivan because she was hit by a "disenfranchised" person with no insurance and she didn't want to call authorities about it. Even though in Louisana you are legally required to call the police about an accident involving damage over $500.
LMAO. Perfect.

3.5 miles is a long way away from the actual problems. They’ll keep voting for it

Invoking the Moynihan Report at all carries strong implications, imo. It is and always has been very controversial. Based on previous exchanges, I don’t believe we are all that far away from each other in our interpretations of the root causes of some of the significant demographic disruptions and challenges experienced by the descendants of slaves in America.
