You are the one suggesting costs of some of these goods will increase 300%.
You don't think that will affect purchasing choices?
That's not what I said. I said you were already paying huge markups before Temu came along. Temu cut out the brick and mortar middle men and dropped prices to the floor. Now, they're out of the market and the same ones that sell the same shite (Walmart, various dollar stores, the great Hobby Lobby) will sell the same exact made in china shite that is made in the same exact chinese factories for a huge markup. People will still buy, just like they did before Temu came into the market.

I did the TEMU experiment for a while and while a lot of the kitchen stuff, decorations etc is junk, the clothes are the same as if you would go to a name brand store for 5 times the price.
None of which we actually need.
I think besides our air fryer the rest are just things I never would use anyway more than once.

I was more curious than anything and to find out the clothes did not fall apart after a couple washings was eye opening. You are correct, we really can do without a TEMU or SHEIN, etc.

They'll probably start shipping to Mexico and putting Hecho in Mexico labels on their stuff
Trump is working on this, too.

It's Vietnam...
There's collaboration at the govt level, and they are figuring out what % can be components shipped and kitted in Vietnam to get thru.

Yup it's the same basic stuff.
The question though to me is Americans spending money on things they don't need.
And wont buy once the cost rises.

While I agree we, as a country, have a want vs need problem, I will still ask: who will determine what you, or anyone, "needs"?

From the same places you got it before Temu, you'll just go back to paying a 300% markup for the same shite made in the same factories. It will have a different name and packaging on it, though.
Sucks for you.

I've never heard of TEMU, guess I didn't miss anything ?

No indeed not. Buying direct from TEMU is a cheaper supply chain than buying through a box store. And both supply chains would have to pay the same tariffs. So why would the more expensive supply chains be chosen?

You were paying more for the same chinese shite BEFORE Temu entered the market. Temu offered the same chinese shite much cheaper, taking business away from many traditional stores that sold the same shite. Now, Temu is out of the market and the same shite will be sold by the traditional markets. Their prices were already a huge markup over what what Temu (and other direct chinese sellers) charged and will be more expensive now.
We aren't talking life changing purchases here like vehicles and shite. It is every day stuff that people will still buy.

Why are you suggesting none of the purchasing choices for non "life changing purchases" were or will be affected by the prices?

It's when you can't afford everything that you determine what you "need"

You want me to get the crayons out and draw you fricking picture?

Yep. And a lot of the money spent buying that shite is leaving the country, its not like its staying in country.
Higher consumer costs on junk (not necessities) that keeps money in country will be a net win. The economy is more than just how the stock market is doing. Small and mid sized towns died, drug addiction and cyclical poverty moved in, and people cant afford the COL in the cities where the jobs are
Its no wonder the DNC is in the shape its in when their voter base is built on commies who dont pay taxes or work and limousine liberals who are completely disconnected from reality

Yeah, if you can illustrate how you violate the most basic principles of economics by doing so, sure.
