And the brother of the former President of Afghanistan has now joined the Taliban, so this was a coup. Trump should directly say if he becomes President again that Ghani’s brother will be dead within the week of his inauguration: Twitter

The scary thing is IS would love to shoot a plane down. It’s great propaganda for them and likely puts us back in the fight against the Taliban which would benefit them

Misread it, but close enough. He was working with the Taliban behind the scenes. Still a coup.

I will say that I have been amazed at the reliability of ground reports through all of this. There has been very little "fake news" bullshite, and most everything we've seen reported via unofficial channels has gone on to be verified. Even the shite we think couldn't possibly be true has ended up true.
I’ll add that other than a little bickering this thread has been pretty incredible too.

Three sources confirm to @NBCNews that US military has put commercial airlines on standby that they'll likely be needed to run flights from transit hubs (not Kabul) for Afghan evacuees.
Could be voluntarily or US could potentially activate the Civil Reserve Air Fleet

I'm not sure how accurate this is, and only time and investigations will tell, but this short write up is very telling as to how Kabul ultimately fell:

How the Taliban silently infiltrated Kabul months ago

In early July, before the great storm broke over Afghanistan, Kabul was already surrounded by the Taliban. And nowhere were the Islamist fighters closer to the Afghan capital city than on the shores of the Qargha Reservoir, a popular getaway on the western edge of the city. People were saying that the Taliban had gathered in the villages behind the nearby hills. The last frontline, it was said, was on the shore of the reservoir at the amusement park.
During the day, families were still taking their children to the rides and the restaurants or going out on the water in swan-shaped paddle boats. A small, six-member special forces unit even enjoyed a picnic in a wooden pavilion on the shore. One of them had to stand guard at the gun turret of their armored Humvee as the rest smoked hookahs and drank colorful sodas.
The next day, I met one of the Taliban’s leading military commanders for Kabul, who received me in the middle of the city in an unremarkable office building. When asked how far the Taliban had to walk to get to the lakeshore, he responded: “Not far at all.” He seemed perfectly calm, a clean-shaven emissary of fear. “They’re already there, after all. They are the security guards at the restaurants, the ride operators, the cleaning staff. When the time is right, the place will be full of Taliban.”

Amazing, these people are staring sure death in the face and you are worried about going to the bathroom and the kids getting diapers. You drink your own pee to survive and take your shirt off for the kid until you get where you are headed.
Incredible how some women have no urge to survive and just fall apart at the seams...
I am old and had a stroke and the Covid when I was in the hospital with the stroke but I am still a stronger person than you.
Get yourself together. You would never survive if we are attacked by all these young fighting age men that the Potato is inviting in. I will. I am prepared.

Earlier today I saw video of a C17 taking off and it banged out a bunch of flares.

I think people from both sides of the aisle are worried with this Administration in the White House. Joe is obviously being propped up and incapable of running our country. We all see it. The entire world sees it.

An A400M did it in a photo from today (or the last day or so) too
