Here is that post I made a day or so ago re: paying to be evacuated.

I knew a lady that was in Egypt during the Arab Spring. She was working for a non-gov't/travel company.
The US Gov't asked for ALL Americans to evacuate. Thankfully, her company provided the employees with security and transportation to the Airport (since the Gov't wouldn't do that).
She stayed at the airport for hours and then was transported to Turkey.
The fricked UP thing that I didn't think about. The US Gov't only got them to a third country they didn't get them back to the US.
This lady had to pay for a flight from Turkey to the US (Once again; this travel company stepped up and paid for all of the flights).
Then a few months later; the US Gov't sent her a fricking bill to pay for her own evacuation from Egypt to Turkey. If she didn't pay it, it would have been added to her Tax bill.
I always thought that would be Tax payers money when any American gets evacuated. Obviously not.

Also the White House called a lid for today. Not a single thing coming out of their mouths. This is how empires fall.
It looks like Biden's team has given up. They aren't even trying to make him appear, presidential anymore. I mean, DAMN !
They're hoping if Biden doesn't talk about it the MSM will lose interest.
This mornings paper had not one mention of Kabul/Afghan on the front page.

I’m going to watch my 5pm local news, I got a dollar that the first thing they talk about is Covid-19.

Yea, I don't know what the Gov't should do for evacuations.
I personally think the Gov't should pay for it at no charge but a new law would need to be put in place and I don't know how that would affect things.
You definitely don't want folks waiting until the last moment so the US will foot the bill rather than you buying your own ticket when the Gov't asks you to GTFO.

Also, UK Parliament asking wtf is the purpose of NATO if one US unilateral decision can frick everyone.
Well, one can point out that the Euros have not paid their share for years, so.... frick them?

The media is the enemy of the people. Along with the people that defend and collaborate with them.

Playing devils advocate… but if an American citizen chose to live in Egypt of their own free will (in no way connected to fed govt), why should tax payers foot the bill for her being evacuated?
If they’re attached to the military or is government in some way (ie defense contractor, diplomat, whatever) then sure, we have a financial obligation.

I will say even CNN/MSNBC has been on Biden's arse pretty hard.
HOWEVER, MSNBC is starting to go back to status quo. CNN is still going pretty strong against Biden with this.
Helene Cooper from NY Times, fricking destroyed Sec. of Defense Austin and Gen. Milley yesterday. I was shocked.

They’re trying to get people killed at this point. Any of these Afghan refugees have $2,000 to spar? I’m willing to bet they don’t.
Didn’t a poster earlier in this thread say this happened to his friend or daughter?

Good call. I wasn't explicit. I failed to mention she was in Egypt for work (she lived in US).

It is easy to not have the talib interfering with operations when there are nor freaking operations.
These people are masters at double speak without saying what is real. I hope they all burn in hell.

Do these people realize that we can see what is going on? “Who are you going to believe? Woke Patton or your lying eyes and ears?”

Hard to believe that $2000 thing. Doesn’t pass the smell test
The way presented here might be taken out of context, but in every other case where US forces have to evacuate US citizens from a bad situation in a foreign country they charge those people after the fact. It doesnt mean you pay upfront or else you can't get on board.

Like pettifogger said, they're using this to build their "neutral" bona fides. The only reasons the NYT is going so hard is because their people are stuck there. If they were out early on, they'd have a different attitude.

Ya, agreed. NYT's reporters & families were evacuated last night. I mentioned last night, Let's see what they do now.

Exactly.
Our only "operations" are on one side of the airport.

It's going to be subtle, but they'll start walking the criticism back slowly. These self-serving assholes are never to be trusted
