They'll surprise you given the fact that they will have plenty of US-trained Afghan military to take care of that stuff. I'm sure they learned plenty in the nearly two decades we trained them.
Iran still has F14's flying.
I think plenty of that stuff left behind in Afghan will be working fine for years to come.

I'm sure it will be. My point was that our military spent years training the Afghan Army to use and maintain all of that stuff. All of those frickers aren't just running away and hiding out. Many of them will be fighting with the Taliban. Many likely already are.

I feel so bad for guys like yourself. My buddy deployed to Sangin in 2010 and his battalion had 25 KIA and over 180 wounded. All for nothing.
Sangin was USMC, your buddy had one hell of a fight in that area. It sucked, we were handcuffed brother. I was Army, 2nd ID, FOB Wright. The terrorist frickers would shoot at our convoys with DShKa rounds and disappear across the Pak border. We couldn’t go after the frickers, and that was demoralizing. If it was up to me we I would’ve called in the Spectre gunships and 155 mike mike rounds across the fricking Pak border and decimated the fricking area from where we were taking indirect fire. Of course that was a no go.

US forces arrive in Kabul as Taliban forces continue to advance on the capital (NBC)
Ghani said:
Did that fricker give an address from India? I thought he and his top-ranking officials fled the country. That's pretty damn shitty to tell people to, "be calm" when your coward arse tucked tail and ran.
The same goes for our useless president who is currently on the second day of a two week vacation.

KABUL, Afghanistan — American forces began their mission to evacuate U.S. embassy workers on Saturday as Taliban fighters continued to advance on the country’s capital.
The first of 3,000 troops began on Friday what the Pentagon described as a limited mission to evacuate the embassy workers. One U.S. Army and two Marine battalions are expected to arrive by Sunday.
quote:
A Taliban spokesman told NBC News the group were aware of the U.S. deployment, but said the militant group would only act against U.S. forces if provoked. He did not say whether the group would halt its advance on the capital while the evacutions were taking place.
Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani meanwhile sought to reassure the population in a brief and vague televised address early Saturday.
Ghani said:
quote:
"I know you all are worried about your present and future," he said. "I, as your president ensure you I (aim) to reduce violence and stop migration of people."

Another Afghanistan city falls to the Taliban today (Fox)
Prior to that, this was reported:
quote:
The Associated Press reports that Mazar-e-Sharif, the fourth-largest city in Afghanistan, fell to the Taliban on Saturday.
Lawmaker Abas Ebrahimzada said the province’s national army corps surrendered first, which prompted the pro-government militias and other forces to lose morale and give up in the face of the Taliban onslaught, the outlet reported.
Prior to that, this was reported:
quote:
Taliban approach Kabul’s outskirts, attack north Afghan city
quote:
The Taliban seized two more provinces on Saturday and approached the outskirts of Afghanistan’s capital while also launching a multi-pronged assault on a major northern city defended by former warlords, Afghan officials said.
The insurgents have captured much of northern, western and southern Afghanistan in a breakneck offensive less than three weeks before the United States is set to withdraw its last troops, raising fears of a full militant takeover or another Afghan civil war.

Biden announces a 5,000 troop deployment to Afghanistan to ensure 'orderly and safe' drawdown
quote:
President Biden has released a lengthy statement on the crisis in Afghanistan. He announces a deployment of 5,000 U.S. troops to the country to ensure an "orderly and safe" drawdown.
He also blames President Trump for the current situation, saying he "inherited" a deal "that left the Taliban in the strongest position militarily since 2001 and imposed a May 1, 2021 deadline on US forces."
"I faced a choice—follow through on the deal, with a brief extension to get our forces and our allies’ forces out safely, or ramp up our presence and send more American troops to fight once again in another country’s civil conflict," he says.

Of course even though he seems to have changed that May 1st deadline and imposed his own. He also also reversed everything possible and then some along with his party controlling congress to push through any changes that needed congress. So why not “fix” this if it was so bad???
Everything he wants done his way with his name stamped on it but then gets negative polling or results will be Trump’s fault like the border crisis.
How long before these vaccines being mandated go back to being rushed by Trump and reason for current spread?

If we have taliban advancing in columns on open roads in American humbles and vehicles I am not sure why we are not attacking those roadways 1st gulf war style and leaving nothing left.

I will be the first to admit I don’t follow this as closely as I should, BUT does he really think the Taliban will be satisfied once they bring down Kabul? That they will stop there? Or am I completely off base here?

All the Biden Administration cares about right now is not having their Saigon moment, or worse. They care only about the optics of having taken 99% of our military teeth out of Afghanistan and leaving primarily diplomats and pencil pushers in Kabul to fend for themselves against an entirely foreseeable advancing Taliban force.
Biden is hoping to get those Americans and Afghan associates out with as little damage as possible. He's already trying to set up his public defense by blaming Trump if shite happens to go even more sideways. If they can get our people out unscathed ol' puddin' brain can say they did it despite what Trump left them with.
The only problem is that many people within the chain of command and from outside it are on record having told the Biden Administration exactly what was going to happen with HIS plan. He didn't listen. He didn't believe it was possible that the Afghan fighting forces we have given billions to in training and material, who we continue to this day to pay salaries to, would tuck tail and run. Despite being warned, the Biden Administration thought it was impossible that the Taliban could take the entire country in a matter of weeks.
They are 100% in damage control mode right now, even with ol' Joe's current, ongoing vacation.

Mind you, Ghani and other higher ups have already fled to India. They are in no position to negotiate anything.
quote:
The State Department said Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Saturday about the Taliban's violent offensive.
"They discussed the urgency of ongoing diplomatic and political efforts to reduce the violence," a spokesperson said. "The Secretary emphasized the United States’ commitment to a strong diplomatic and security relationship with the Government of Afghanistan and our continuing support for the people of Afghanistan."
