Subway franchisees pressure company to nix Megan Rapinoe from ads

Megan Rapinoe created more controversy during the Tokyo Olympics, and some Subway franchisees are reportedly urging the fast-food company to let her go.

The 36-year-old, purple-haired soccer star — who kneeled during the National Anthem to kick off the Tokyo Olympics before leading the United States to a bronze medal this week — began a stint as a pitchwoman for the fast-food giant this spring. In one spot, Rapinoe — who has been a vocal proponent of equal rights and equal pay for women — knocks a burrito out of a guy’s hands by kicking a soccer ball at him.
The initial response was varied, franchisees told the Post.
On a recent discussion forum hosted by the North American Association of Subway Franchisees (NAASF), a Wisconsin store operator shared a photo of a hand-written note from a customer taped on the door of his store.
“Boycott Subway until Subway fires the anti-American … Megan Rapinoe, the creep who kneels for our beloved National Anthem!” the note reportedly said.
“The ad should be pulled and done with,” the franchisee noted regarding the Rapinoe spot, adding, “It gets tiring apologizing.”
Representatives from NAASF told members recently that the group took grievances about the ads to company managers, led by Chief Executive John Chidsey, the Post article reported.
Meanwhile, a West Coast franchisee told the outlet that he believed the ads should highlight the improved bread and also suggested Subway’s ad creators focus on its mom-and-pop owners to make Subway appear less corporate.
“Spending our money to make a political statement is completely and totally out of bounds,” one Arizona franchisee reportedly wrote on the NAASF blog.
Get woke, go broke

Subway goes from a pedophile human trafficker to a militant lesbian Marxist.
They can G/F themselves if they think I’ll ever walk into one of those restaurants.
No thanks.

Good. Got tired of her lecturing biotch attitude telling me what sandwich to eat. She should have been making them.

This is someone actually presenting a way ahead and a solution instead of complaining.

I'm surprised Subway franchise owners took a break from undercutting each other in unprotected markets, to complain about Rispone.
Also, I can't imagine any spokesperson for the company would be agreeable for the wide variety of franchises.

Firehouse subs is much better than subway garbage. That my franchise go to. Better options yet for just mom and pop places.

Replace her with the black female wrestler who says that she loves the USA.

This. My first impression of a subway that of an assembly line processed food item.
I haven’t eaten at one in 6 years probably and I used to be In one at least 3x per week.

Seriously?
There's some major names in the acting industry who are hurting bigly because of the lockdowns and because there are now way less roles for white actors due to diversity initiatives.
You could probably get a household name who might have never before been attainable for a surprisingly great price.
I'm just spitballing, but somebody like Coutney Cox or Owen Wilson or (if you want to go really cheap) Frankie Muniz. What about the Asian guy from the "Hangover" movies?
All four of those people are recognizable by most Americans and are well liked by people across the board. All would be a way better choice than Megan Rapinoe.

It’s a damn shame that this American Patriot of a woman will not be the most sought after spokesperson in this country.
Her pride and excitement for representing the USA should bring chills to everyone. But tens of millions hate her for it and that’s a fact.
It’s disgusting, no other way to say it.

Seriously, no one who regularly eats at Subway likes Megan Rapinoe.

You know that dude is actually a doctor don’t you? If acting dries up.. he has a fallback plan.

Haven't eaten anything from Subway since we got a Jersey Mike's, but I wish them well. Can't count the number of BMT originals I have had there.
