This is why kids from the 60's and 70's are immune to most things:

Part of it, I think, is that we've created a society where subjective truth (a belief created based on an individual's feelings of how they believe things are) takes precedence over objective truth (a belief created based on contextual data, regardless of personal prejudice).

I think this is the whole problem. We don’t see things as they are; we see things as we are.

...and in the 70s, we were learning the next ice age was on the horizon, relatively speaking, and we would all die from the cold.

He kept secret tapes on everything, because there weren't private email servers to hide stuff on.

No no, starvation was gonna get us before the cold. Except for that whole USA feeding not only all of Africa to keep them from starving, but all of the USSR too with our wheat for them to stand in the bread lines for.

Ask any Vietnamese who immigrated from there if they prefer America over Communism.

The average income there is $1910 annually. Yay. Communism is a success.

Even the crappiest music back then was good & fun. We had joy we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. We had REO Speedwagon concerts. We had the best music ever in the history of mankind. From classical to a fifth of Beethoven Even stoners loved everyone. We had orchestras.

Everyone was lovely.
It's a lovely day everyone turn it up and sing it wif me

For those of you who weren’t in elementary school in the seventies, do things just seem worse now bc I’m no longer a child?

I can't compare my childhood in the 50s to today's elementary schools because I have no idea what's going on in today's classes.
However, I can tell the difference between being a kid then vs. now. Today's kids have more conveniences...like Air conditioning and TV. But those things have a downside. They don't read books (we did because there was no TV). They don't go outside and play all day (we did because the house had no AC and no TV).

The other big difference is freedom. Parents were not hyperactive about their kid's safety. Leave him alone and if he gets killed you can make another one. They didn't ask what you were gonna do or who you were with. It was wonderful.

We lost. Notice how Vietnam is communist? Notice how there was a "cleansing" shortly after we left. The image of the Huey leaving our embassy is not a give up moment.

They why can be debated but it was solidly a "L".

If anything it as North Vietnam reneging on a deal. We signed Paris Peace Accords and left the country per the agreements. After we were gone is when the North violated the Accords and moved in. We didn't get beat. If we had stayed there is no way the North could have taken the South.

Hate it when people say we lost because that is not what happened.

We both made up stories hinting at our ages to throw off the resident poli board estalker that crosses names off with lipstick...

Yep, late 60s-early 70s. Before the teachers unions went full socialist libtard.

Go in a class room today, apathy, ignorance, laziness, and mal-education.

And that’s just the teachers!

It truly takes a village to raise an idiot, and enough idiots can raze the village!

I’m still waiting on the US to fully convert to the metric system. Teachers had us convinced inches, feet, miles, pounds, etc were all going away and we “had better learn the metric system by God!”.

The 70's brought the beginning of the Dept of Education and the end of quality public education.
