Stephen King ignites online fury over controversial Oscars tweets
LINK

Stephen King is under fire on Twitter after downplaying the role of diversity in selecting this year’s Academy Award nominees.

“I would never consider diversity in matters of art. Only quality,” the 72-year-old tweeted on Tuesday. “It seems to me that to do otherwise would be wrong.”

In an earlier tweet, King wrote that diversity was not even discussed in the categories he was tasked with nominating.

“As a writer, I am allowed to nominate in just 3 categories: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Screenplay,” he explained. “For me, the diversity issue—as it applies to individual actors and directors, anyway—did not come up.”

The author of “It,” “Carrie” and “The Outsider” was instantly eviscerated by many on social media, including “Selma” and “When They See Us” director Ava DuVernay, who has championed diversity in Hollywood.

But people are qualified for jobs and colleges because of their skin color?

Thanks Steve

Uh oh Steve, you just stepped in it. Are you saying that skin color doesn’t matter and that we should focus on people’s talents and products rather than gender and race? That sounds very Himmler-esque....

Stephen King is a fine writer and is almost always wrong on things political, but even Stephen King can be right sometimes. The diversity fetish in the movie industry is nothing more than crazy talk.

This nation has been dumbed down so far in the name of diversity it is pathetic.

Any attempt to point out who we had to dumb it down for is met by cries of racism. Even in this forum.

That is pretty reasonable. Now when it comes to who should run the country or coach an NFL team we better see some quantity of black folks.

In a way, it's typical prog thought. All you common folk need equity in your lives. We elites, not so much.

Walls don't work to keep people out. (We're not talking about outside my mansion, and you are a bigot to even make the point.)

Private citizens do not need guns, now please quit bugging me or my armed security will explain that you have no right to be in this public space while I am present.

And dumbass liberals like him, cant see the dumbassery of their logic. Art is the very place that you look for diversity, because its all about a virtual world. But apply his logic to real world settings . . . .

“I would never consider diversity in matters of healthcare. Only quality,”

“I would never consider diversity in matters of criminal justice. Only quality,”

“I would never consider diversity in matters of finance. Only quality,”

“I would never consider diversity in matters of construction. Only quality,”

See, that's where we all live, in reality. Where being diverse just for diversity sake, has some serious consequences and repercussions. But he doesn't seem able to grasp that

But you say this from #WhitePrivilage I wrote a quality children's book on #IlhanOmar last summer & the struggle to get it published was painful & ultimately it didn't happen You have zero idea how to live in my world, where I can't even find one book like this for my child

That crafty Arab didnt get her children’s book on Omar published? Think of all the diversity that our kids are missing out on as a result. That shouldn’t and can’t be tolerated.

She can’t even spell white privilege correctly, I’m sure the book was of the utmost “quality”, not to mention the shitty person the book was about.

Or having an affair with her aide. Or committing immigration fraud. Maybe a section dedicated to “some people Who did some things”
