Most seminaries have been infested similar to the colleges and universities with a lot of left think... They are churning out "pastors" that will do more to destroy a church than the devil ever could...

interesting that you say that. i moved to harrisonburg va and thought i would visit Harrisonburg Baptist Church.

I had no idea that the Church has been infiltrated with Leftist propaganda. The pastor was a total Libtard. It was so obvious. What a disaster that was.

We left that place pretty quick.

I would never begin to make assertions about this stuff, as I'm an atheist who's never stepped foot in a service, but my own personal interactions with peers who went to seminary or divinity school make me question the idea that it's the "school" corrupting the students.

Purely anecdotally, the People I know who entered religion as a vocation did it for 1 of 2 reasons:

1. To come to grips with their own homosexuality (Catholic, Methodist, Episcopalian)

2. To slay hot church poon and have a position of power and respect in their community (SBC)

I had a history professor in college, brilliant man - expert on Greece, Rome, and Meso-America - who had dropped out of seminary. Said it was a running joke that it was the fastest way to become an atheist.

No offense, but that might be the dumbest thing I have ever read online. And that's saying something.

There are many sub-denominations of Baptist, it's difficult to keep up with. I guess here is another.

Going to a church is great, but some of the best places I've seen the Holy Spirit move in understanding the Word is within small groups of people in Bible study, sharing teachings, and hearing the word taught with a teachable spirit, having put on the spiritual goggles to get more into the depths of His word to search for gems in Scripture, hidden for us. It reminds me of what the early church may have been like.

If you have studied the word, you may notice oil (especially olive oil) often alludes to the Holy Spirit.

You can see this all over scripture, an example is Acts 2, right after the Holy Spirit descends in the upper room, they had "tongues of fire", and they immediately spoke the "wonderful works of God".

In Zechariah 4, he sees a vision of two olive trees pouring into bowls powering a lampstand (lampstand as an analogy of a church, us) and then says the WORD of the Lord to Zerubbabel, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit’ says the Lord of Hosts. This language also reflects in the witnesses in Revelation 11:4-5 with the olive trees (similar to Zec 4) and how "fire proceeds from their mouth". Jesus quotes from Isaiah in Luke 4:18 when He says ..”The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me...”

Jesus himself said that as long as He is in the world, He is the Light (John 9:5). But He ascended to heaven and sent ,with the Father, the Holy Spirit so that we would be the light of the world. So it is each person responsibility and choice to make, of who or what you follow, and those that are called are called also for the great commission, even if people hate you for it.

Yeah, I am certain this is the case...

I have often found that most atheists are not really atheists and are just mad at God. At least that goes for most atheists that I have encountered.

Because it's just a name, and in general they're much more independent than other denominations. The labels are useful to an extent; you can predict most of the differences between a PCA church and a PC-USA church, for example. But there are probably good and bad churches under all sorts of labels out there.

Most Christians I know, those who attend Baptist churches included, don't get that wound up about the name on the sign. What's being taught is far more important.

The New Yorker - American Christianity’s White Supremacy Problem

This is where we are headed. This article is so flawed on so many levels that it’s enraging. That said, if you are a white Christian, it’s a must read, for you are viewed as a racist. If you are a racist, it’s permissible to purge you from society. Your existence is violence.

The evangelical Christian church will be persecuted over the next 20 years in crazy ways in my opinion.

JD Greear can’t change the name of the denomination. This will have to be voted on during the annual convention.
