Sorry, no link. Just heard Chip Roy on the Steve Deace show, say the House Dems are bringing a marriage proposal to the House floor tonight for a vote.

My guess is this will likely breeze through both House and senate unfortunately.

Regardless of your opinion on gay marriage. The Federal government has no business regulating this. Like many other things.

there are times when we need our govt, this is one of those issues. GOP controlled states will line up to overturn this ruling as a states issue. It's a loosing issue for the GOP but they just cant let it go. it's so damn stupid

The House plans to vote Tuesday on legislation to codify same-sex marriage nationwide and strengthen other marriage-equality protections, in a direct reaction to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that overturned longstanding federal abortion rights.

The Respect for Marriage Act would establish that a marriage is considered valid under federal law if it was legal in the state where it was performed. The bill would explicitly bar anyone from denying “full faith and credit” to an out-of-state marriage based on sex, race, ethnicity or national origin, regardless of any individual state’s law. It would grant the U.S. attorney general the authority to enforce that rule through civil action.

It would also fully repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, known as DOMA, the 1996 law signed by then-President Bill Clinton that defined marriage as being the union of a man and a woman.

in no way, do i want Obergefell codified, but since the federal government interacts with all of us from a tax basis on whether we file married/single/xyz, i see some merit to a legal recognition. i may not agree with the gay lifestyle, but i don't wish higher taxes on them.

i guess you could say that it goes to keeping the government out of marriage all together. if you live in the same address and share bills, file jointly. IDGAF. I want everybody to pay less taxes.

As long as Government recognizes marriages, then gay marriage should be allowed under the Constitution.

If government gets out of the marriage game, that's a whole different story

Government should recognize civil unions. And leave marriages to churches. Getting the government to trump the churches on marriage is where a lot of this government overreach on social issues started.

marriage is exclusively a religeous cerimony only

civil unions are the only thing government has constitutional authority over, but they, and politicians, havent yet learned this lesson

i always play around with my taxes and married filed jointly is almost always the better option. i'm sure there's a magic cutoff point that gets you in into MP territory.

plus if they adopt they can claim EITC.

No government at any level should have anything to do with marriage.

Simply have people enter into legal agreements (same as two people agreeing to open a business, or write a book together, or invest in something together), have the courts act as a repository of such agreements, and ultimately enforce/mediate such agreements as it does with all other legal issues.

The “marriage before God” of two people can then be moderated by whichever religious (or non religious) organization the two choose to follow.

Speaking from a legal standpoint, a recognized marriage makes many many things easier. I never had a problem recognizing civil unions between any two consenting persons. (With the caveat that they both have to be able to enter into legally binding contracts, ie age, mental capacity, etc.)

Good. It should have been passed before and not up the USSC.
