Sophie Cunningham 'too turbulent' to be paired with Caitlin Clark - NYT

Funny how these informed opinions, in this case by Candace Buckner for the New York Times, only go one way. I'd even venture to say there's an undercurrent of the R word here. Yet another example of a black woman wanting to silence a white one. IMHO, I'm not sure it would matter anyway, Sophie won't be silenced. It's really about the message. If Sophie was advocating for the LGBT community, fondling Caitlin's arse, this same OP-Ed writer would be proclaiming how important the pair are for the league.

I just love the picture...

New York Times
quote:
They all showed up to be part of a circus, not to enjoy a WNBA game. They attended solely to antagonize and amplify a nonexistent issue in this basketball league. All because of Sophie Cunningham. This was the season when the Fever and even the whole Caitlin Clark experience took a backseat to a bench player with big opinions.
So if the Fever ever want to go back to being a basketball team again and follow the lead of rivals openly clashing with the forces trying to hijack their league, then Cunningham has to go.
Go to Chicago, or Portland. Or maybe Toronto could use a 30-year-old unrestricted free agent who averages fewer than 8 points a game, while her latest TikTok videos are good for about 2 million views a pop. Or perhaps expansion Cleveland can take her in 2028, unless of course she hasn’t already dropped basketball entirely by then to become a professional UFC ring girl, or full-time finger-pointer.
quote:
...Cunningham said something in an ESPN article about protecting girls in sports from transgender athletes. This naturally set off alarms for the kind of audience that loves its culture wars served with a side of sport. So, when that base discovered all kinds of new and fun ways to disrupt the most profitable women’s professional league, which is also powered by the LGBTQIA community, they found their new hero. Sophie was her name.

It could be argued that having 2 white talented women playing on same team upsets the LGBTQ black players. Those black players should seek counseling for their racism and anger issues

If the Fever want to go back to being a basketball team, they need to replace their fricking coach.

Thanks for posting.
What a ridiculous opinion. What's even more ridiculous is that the NYT would even express an opinion on the matter.
It's almost as if they think they know better than the rest of us what the point of sports is in the first place.
Leftist authoritarianism on full display.

Yet the media and WNBA are allowed to criticize and demean two "formerly male" players that want to play in the WNBA and ignore an overseas "formerly male" player that wants to play in the WNBA.
And the simpletons that are an audience for this drivel let them skate on every bit of it.

Still a net negative profit, BTW.

Yeah, what are the other "women's professional leagues"?
It's hard to imagine there is one that loses more money than this one.

Y’all should google “Sophie Cunningham boyfriend”

Isn't Sophie's team one of the leaders in the league in attendance?
The writer of this story is a black woman, so there was about a 99% chance from the start it would be a retarded article.

I love me some Sophie. My wife got into the Fever because of Kaitlin but I learned of Sophie watching with my wife. I might get me one of her pointing Tee shirts!

I don’t care that she rides the blacksnake.

It’s the only women’s league and it sure as hell isn’t profitable.

It’s powered by the nba which takes massive losses for it.

That is one truth. However, Caitlin Clark single handedly turned the WNBA into a profitable item for every player and all she has gotten is hate from two fronts.
One, she is white and Two, she is heterosexual. If the person that takes over as Commissioner doesn't clamp down on the gay favoritism, it's going to ruin the league. It's even infected the referee's in how they call and it's obvious.
I've seen better refs in high school basketball

At this point I think different outlets are just trying to bait one of them to say something really stupid.
Cunningham is older but not by too much. They are both capable of saying something dumb.

These writers and websites are doing what they accuse Sophia of. Using her rising stardom to get clicks. These are bait articles written solely to get negative reactions and discussion to make money. There are no more journalists who didn’t pick a side rather dug in and reported from all sides. Those days are gone. Its all ambulance chasing full time now

The LGBTQIAEIEIO Community involved with the WNBA can suck it.

Having Caitlin being a bigger draw than many other players was already a problem. Caitlin gaining attention because she understands basic the basic biology that male players LARP'ing as females are still male players, and then their being on the same team?
Well that's just too much.

The wnba is not a serious league
Posted on 10/6/26 at 12:38 pm to Cosmo
Nope. If not for the generous nature of the NBA, the league would have folded years ago. There would be no Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, or Sophie Cunningham to even talk about.

More proof that it isn’t a sports league but a political operation
